Abstract:
A safety arrangement is suitable for a turning station of an elevator system. The safety arrangement includes at least one first blocking position for preventing, by a first mechanical device, an elevator car from entering the turning station, wherein the first mechanical device is arranged to change its position in response to operation of the turning station, and at least one second blocking position for preventing, by a second mechanical device, an elevator car from exiting the turning station.
Abstract:
It is desired that elevators are not operated when the brake is not completely released. Thus, the disengaging of brakes must be monitored or guaranteed otherwise. For providing guaranteed opening, the current for opening the brake is determined and then an additional current is provided to the brakes in order to guarantee the opening. The current for opening the brake is determined by doing a test sequence for each brake individually. In the test sequence, one brake is used to hold the elevator. Then, a momentum is applied to the elevator for moving the elevator car. The current is determined by increasing the current to the engaged brake gradually until the elevator moves. When the movement is detected, the current value is stored. When the elevator is operated regularly, the additional current is added to the stored value.
Abstract:
Brake release sensors for an elevator can be replaced by an arrangement wherein the brake release is determined from the force caused by the brake. This is achieved by providing measuring device for measuring the weight of an elevator car between the brake and the motor body so that the weight of the elevator car is measured only when the brake is on.
Abstract:
A method and an apparatus for automatic condition checking of an elevator are provided, wherein an elevator car of the elevator is situated in a door zone of a first landing in an elevator shaft following an earthquake. The method includes determining whether the load carried by hoisting ropes is evenly distributed between the hoisting ropes by checking the status or measurement data of at least one rope tension measurement device. The test unit determines whether the elevator car is empty and conducts a drive test for the elevator car in order to determine unimpeded access for the elevator car to other landings. The elevator is returned to normal use, if the drive test indicates unimpeded access for the elevator car to the other landings.
Abstract:
A control arrangement of an elevator includes a safety gear, an over speed governor with a rope which is connected to the safety gear, a stopping device for generating an actuating force to the safety gear, and a drive unit for driving the elevator apparatus. In order to facilitate easy and efficient maintenance, the control arrangement includes a controller for controlling a triggered sequence to involve activating of the stopping device for braking with the safety gear, and controlling the drive unit to drive the elevator apparatus during braking with the safety gear until the safety gear stops the elevator apparatus.
Abstract:
A method for testing operation of an elevator including an elevator car includes starting movement of the elevator car; and thereafter starting a stopping sequence for stopping movement of the elevator car; and monitoring movement of the elevator car, the monitoring preferably including monitoring acceleration of the elevator car; and detecting a predefined response in movement of the elevator car, the predefined response preferably being cease of acceleration of the elevator car; and determining time elapsed between the starting a stopping sequence and the detected predefined response in movement of the elevator car, wherein the response is preferably cease of acceleration, for thereby determining reaction time of the elevator; and comparing the time elapsed with at least one reference, such as with at least one predefined threshold. An elevator is provided for implementing the method.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a method and arrangement for creating a safe working space in the upper part of an elevator shaft. The solution comprises a number of safety levels with pre-defined clearances and triggering limits for safety operations in order to create a safety space zone at the upper part of the elevator shaft by stopping the upwards movement of the elevator car, when the elevator is in the inspection or maintenance mode, with actions which are arranged to become more and more effective and definitive safety level by safety level.

Abstract:
A method and a safety device for implementing the method are provided in connection with a quick stop situation of an elevator. In the method, an activation process of a machinery brake is started and also a disconnection process of the current supply of the elevator motor is started after the starting of the activation process of a machinery brake.
Abstract:
A brake controller, an elevator system and a method for performing an emergency stop are provided. The brake controller includes an input for connecting the brake controller to the DC intermediate circuit of the frequency converter driving the hoisting machine of the elevator, an output for connecting the brake controller to the electromagnet of the brake, a switch for supplying electric power from the DC intermediate circuit of the frequency converter driving the hoisting machine of the elevator via the output to the electromagnet of a brake, and also a processor with which the operation of the brake controller is controlled by producing control pulses in the control pole of the switch of the brake controller.
