摘要: A communication device (e.g., 106) having multiple transmission modes employs a method of transmitting user information (309, 310) and intermittent overhead data (307, 308). The communication device (106) selects from a first transmission technique and a second transmission technique. When the first transmission technique is selected and overhead data (307) is to be transmitted, the communication device (106) replaces a first predetermined amount of the user information (309) with the overhead data (307) to form a data unit. When the second transmission technique is selected and overhead data (308) is to be transmitted, the communication device (106) replaces a second predetermined amount of the user information (310) with the overhead data (308) to form the data unit, wherein the second predetermined amount is less than the first predetermined amount. The communication device (106) then transmits the data unit formed by either transmission technique, such that when using the second transmission technique, an increased number of bits (506) are available over time to represent the user information, while a substantially equal number of bits (508) are available over time to represent the overhead data as compared to the first transmission technique.

摘要: A diversity receiver that receives diverse modulated signals may produce a usable signal from the received modulated signals in the following manner. Two modulated signals, each including a desired component and an undesired component, are received by the diversity receiver, wherein each desired component includes an originally transmitted signal and each undesired component includes noise and interference. The diversity receiver estimates each desired and undesired component and produces the usable signal based on the estimated desired components and the estimated undesired components.

摘要: A method and apparatus are disclosed for improved channel selection in a multi-frequency radio data communications system whereby a minimum level of signal/service quality may be maintained at all times without unduly impacting channel loading considerations. Specialized idle messages are utilized in the outbound channel of the radio system which are required in any event but include added information for the monitoring remote terminals to determine channel quality and take appropriate action by selecting a new channel to operate on if channel quality falls below a preset threshold level.

摘要: A communication system performs adaptive scheduling by considering present and past reported CQI values and other indications of channel conditions in scheduling a Modulation and Coding Scheme (MCS) and then executing a ‘dithering’ function in order to effectuate an MCS that is intermediate between adjacent discrete MCSs. In one embodiment, the communication system determines a first MCS based on a channel quality metric received from a mobile station (MS) and then transmits data utilizing the first MCS. The communication system assigns weights to each of the first MCS and a second MCS based on whether the transmitted data is acknowledged and, based on the assigned weights, selects one of the first and second MCSs for a subsequent transmission of data to the MS. The communication system also may assign weights to each of a first and second MCS based on a transition between a MIMO-A and a MIMO-B transmission scheme.

摘要: A chalk line is marked by attaching two hooks to a nail, and then extending a string a length from the nail. The hooks are attached to an apparatus that has multiple springs, such that there is a string attached to the rear of the apparatus while the hooks are attached to the front of the apparatus. When the string has been extended the desired length, the user then snaps the line to make a chalk line. Then, the pull on the string is released by the user, causing the two hooks to separate. When the two hooks separate, their connection to the nail is broken. The hooks and the apparatus associated with the hooks then is free to be reeled back to the user. The user does not have to return to the nail to remove the hooks and the associated apparatus.

摘要: A Session Initiation Protocol (SIP)-compliant proxy (106) receives a first INVITE message destined for a mobile station (102). The first INVITE message is associated with an initial Internet Protocol (IP) contact address for the mobile station (102). Subsequently, it is determined whether an IP address update for the mobile station (102) may have occurred and a new IP contact address is obtained for the mobile station (102). A second INVITE message is sent to the mobile station (102) at the new contact address so as to continue a session initiation.

摘要: A method and system for wireless communications between a base transceiver station and a mobile unit which provides necessary guard times in the downlink signal burst while maintaining the same bit rate in both the downlink and uplink signal bursts is disclosed. Downlink signal bursts are modulated using a first modulation technique and uplink signal bursts are modulated using a second modulation technique. Preferably, the first modulation technique is a higher-order than the second modulation technique. The first modulation technique may be 16 QAM while the second modulation technique may be 4 QAM or π/4 QPSK.

摘要: In a multiple site communication system, a method for determining when to hand off a communication that is occurring on one communication resource to another communication resource may be accomplished in the following manner. Once a communication unit is allocated a communication resource, it begins to monitor signal usabilities of the allocated communication resource and a predetermined set of alternate communication resources. A broadcast unit associated with the allocated communication resource also monitors the signal usability of the allocated communication resource. When the signal usability of the allocated communication resource is determined to be unfavorable by the communication unit or the broadcast unit, one of the alternate communication resources is selected based on calculated signal usability, such that the communication unit can continue the communication.
