Abstract:
A new configuration damper, for interconnecting two elements of a structure that undergo relative movements and deformations, that increase the level of damping when the overall structure is subjected to a loading condition is disclosed. The new configuration damper aides in controlling displacements, velocities and accelerations under dynamic loading in structural systems.
Abstract:
A method and system for evaluating movement of a user and providing biofeedback including setting a reference point for movement by the user, whereby the reference point corresponds to a reference rhythm, providing the reference rhythm to the user to assist the user in maintaining the reference point, sensing the user's movement, comparing the user's movement to the reference point movement, and alerting the user that the user's movement is away from the reference point by modifying the reference rhythm to a modified rhythm. The user's movement is corrected after receiving the alert.
Abstract:
A secure portable electronic device for providing secure services when used in conjunction with a host computer having a central processing unit. The secure portable device communicates with the host computer via a host agent program executing on the host computer from the secure portable device. Periodically, the host agent and a corresponding program executing on the secure portable device, cooperate to verify the integrity and authenticity of the host agent program, for example, in conjunction with exchanging a new session key. Other systems and methods are disclosed.
Abstract:
A high pressure first stage turbine and seal assembly are described. In one embodiment, a high pressure turbine section is provided. The turbine section includes at least one stage, at least one rotor and a bucket assembly. The bucket assembly includes a bucket and an attachment fixture. The stage has a high root reaction during operation. An intermediate space is between the bucket assembly and a stationary component of the turbine section. A seal is provided between the stationary member and the rotor to facilitate preventing leakage from the intermediate space toward an end of the stage. Steam balance holes are provided in the rotor or the bucket to facilitate feeding steam towards an end of the turbine stage.
Abstract:
A system and method for peer-to-peer communication between a slave device and network resources wherein the slave device, for example, a smart card, communicates using a protocol designed to allow the smart card to communicate over a half-duplex serial communications link while appearing to applications and network nodes as being a full-fledged network node in a manner that conserves power so as to be suitable for deployment on small portable devices.
Abstract:
The explosive charge carrier has first and second ends and an intermediate opening formed therethrough between the two ends for holding an explosive charge. The first end has an annular groove with a tongue and the second end has a central opening defining an annular wall. Angularly spaced apart slots are formed in the second end from its edge. Two slots are formed through the annular wall on opposite sides thereof. A clip member having a loop-shaped portion with two legs with inward extending portions is provided for insertion of the inward extending portions into the central opening by way of the two slots for location in the annular groove of the first end of an identical carrier inserted into the central opening to secure the two carriers together with the tongue of the identical carrier located in a selected one of the slots formed in the annular wall.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for making real-time measurements of downhole properties during cement plug placement. A wired placement conduit (14) is lowered downhole releasing a sensor package (20). The sensor package is capable of measuring downhole properties in real-time in the period while the cement plug sets.

Abstract:
The application may further describe a seal guard in a turbine where the turbine include a plurality of circumferentially spaced nozzles, a plurality of circumferentially spaced turbine blades that each include a blade cover, and an opening defined by a trailing edge of the nozzles and a leading edge of the blade covers. The seal guard may include an upstream axial fin positioned at the trailing edge of the nozzles that extends in a downstream direction across at least part of the opening or a downstream axial fin positioned at a leading edge of a blade cover that extends in an upstream direction across at least part of the opening.
Abstract:
Patching of software application. A software application is stored on a smart card as partitions and is loaded from the smart card into the memory of a host computer to which the smart card is connected. The software application is executed on the host computer; which using the instructions of the software application establishes a communications channel between the software application and a remote patch server containing a patch for at least one partition of the software application. Upon detecting that a patch is available for the at least one partition of the software application, downloading the at least one partition from the remote server into volatile memory allocated to the software application on the host computer via the first communications channel, and uploading the at least one partition from the volatile memory allocated to the software application to the smart card. Other systems and methods are disclosed.
