    摘要: An electrically-variable transmission has three modes of operation. The power in each of the modes of operation is split by differential gearing into a mechanical path and an electrical path between the input shaft of the transmission and the output shaft of the transmission. This is accomplished with three planetary gearsets and four torque-transmitting mechanisms that are judiciously engaged to provide the three modes of operation, which are an input-split mode and two compound-split modes. The transmission can be part of a system with electrical storage devices, which will supplement the engine power during some periods of operation.

    摘要: Electrically variable transmissions embodying the concepts the present invention utilize two planetary gear subsets, two motor/generators and two clutches in the nature of torque transfer devices to effect input split, compound split, neutral and reverse modes of operation. Both planetary gear subsets may be simple, or one may be individually compounded. An electrical control member regulates power flow among an energy storage device and the two motor/generators. In either of two preferred embodiments the neutral mode of operation may be effected by releasing the two torque transfer devices, and the reverse mode of operation may be effected by reversing the magnetic polarity of one motor/generator. In addition, the two preferred embodiments allow a geared neutral as well as reverse to be effected by means of the differential gearing arrangement of the planetary gear subsets and other members of the transmission.

The transmission employs three planetary gear sets that cooperate with a plurality of torque transmitting devices to provide two distinct gear trains or power paths corresponding to two modes of electrically variable operation in which the speed ratio between the input member and the output member varies with the speed of at least one of the motor/generators. A transmission includes a transmission input member, a transmission output member, and a differential gearing arrangement selectively operatively connecting the transmission input member and the transmission output member. A plurality of torque transmitting devices is selectively engageable to provide a plurality of fixed speed ratios between the transmission input member and the transmission output member. A second motor/generator includes a second rotor connected to the gearing arrangement to provide torque to the transmission output member. The transmission input member is selectively connectable to the engine output member and the first rotor to alternate between a series hybrid drive mode and a fixed ratio mode of powertrain operation. A corresponding method is also provided.

    摘要: The present invention provides a hybrid conversion module configured to easily attach to existing powertrain components in order to produce a light hybrid vehicle. The hybrid conversion module includes an electric motor/generator operable to transmit power to a torque converter and thereby drive the light hybrid vehicle. A storage device such as a battery is operatively connected to the electric motor/generator and is configured to transmit energy to or receive energy from the electric motor/generator. A clutch is configured to selectively decouple the light hybrid vehicle's engine from the torque converter such that the vehicle can be powered by the electric motor/generator in an efficient manner. The apparatus of the present invention also includes a light hybrid vehicle having such a hybrid conversion module attached in the manner described to a conventional powertrain.
