    摘要: A light condensing system of this invention comprising: a backlight system having a light source and a first light condensing section (X) capable of condensing emitted light from the light source within ±60° of the front direction; and a light condensing film with no patterned structure as a second light condensing element (Y). The light condensing system effectively shield light passing-through in an oblique direction to thereby suppress uncomfortable coloring, present a good display, realize cost reduction.

    摘要: A practical optical film which has excellent anisotropy in the scattering of linearly polarized light, can be easily produced and has excellent thermal stability, and an optical element using the optical film are disclosed. The optical film comprises an optically isotropic resin film and birefringent minute regions dispersedly contained therein comprising a thermoplastic resin having a glass transition temperature of 50° C. or higher and showing a nematic liquid crystal phase in a range of temperatures lower than the glass transition temperature of the resin constituting the resin film, wherein the difference in refractive index between the resin film and the minute regions in a direction perpendicular to the axis direction in which a linearly polarized light has a maximum transmittance, &Dgr;n1, is 0.03 or larger and that in the maximum-transmittance axis direction, &Dgr;n2, is 50% or smaller of the &Dgr;n1. The optical element comprises a multilayer structure which comprises at least one of a polarizing film and a retardation and one or more layers of the optical film.

    摘要: This invention relates to a transmissive liquid crystal display including a light source (BL), a reflective linearly-polarizing layer (Pr1), a birefringent layer (A) having specific optical properties and specific retardation properties, a light source-side absorptive linearly-polarizing layer (P1), a liquid crystal cell (LC), and a viewer-side linearly-polarizing layer (P2) which are arranged in this order. In the transmissive liquid crystal display of the invention, light leakage is suppressed in oblique directions so that black brightness can be reduced. A reduction in contrast in the normal direction can also be suppressed, which is caused by the distribution of light to the normal direction.
