摘要: Methods and apparatus for estimating mobile station location in a wireless communication system. At initiation of a call or a page response, a mobile station of the system sends an access request signal to a primary base station. The primary base station responds with an access acknowledgment which may be intentionally delayed such that the mobile station increases its transmit power level. The primary base station then transmits a channel assignment message to the mobile station. The mobile station responds by transmitting a location signal in the form of a known user-specific traffic preamble at the higher transmit power level. The primary base station intentionally delays sending an acknowledgment of the preamble, such that the mobile station transmits the preamble for a longer period of time than it would otherwise. This additional transmission time allows the preamble to be detected accurately in the primary base station as well as in a number of other surrounding base stations in a manner suitable for generating path delay measurements. A primary location processor associated with the primary base station uses the path delay measurements from the primary and surrounding base stations to generate an estimate of mobile location. The mobile location estimation may be provided during an on-going call by the primary base station sending a fake handoff message to the mobile station directing it to handoff to the same base station and traffic channel but with a different power level and preamble length, or by the primary base station sending a predetermined location probe message directing the mobile station to transmit the traffic preamble with a desired power level and preamble length.

摘要: A high priority and/or emergency overload access control system treats a wireless unit as a higher priority wireless unit when the wireless unit is attempting to access a wireless communications system with a high priority call, such as an emergency call. For example, the overload access control system can recognize if the wireless unit is attempting to initiate a call to an emergency number. If so, the wireless unit can perform a persistence test as an emergency class (e.g. overload class 10-15) wireless unit in attempting to access the wireless communications system. Thus, the wireless unit will experience an increased probability of passing the persistence test and thereby reducing the persistence delay in attempting to access the wireless communications system with the emergency call.

摘要: The present invention is a method for accurately estimating a location of a mobile-telephone using forward link power control. In one embodiment, the present invention comprises the steps of transmitting first, second and third signals from first, second and third base stations during first, second and third time intervals; decreasing the power level of the first base station during at least portions of the second and third time intervals; receiving a mobile-telephone signal having receive information indicating times-of-arrivals of the first, second and third signals at the mobile-telephone; and estimating a location of the mobile-telephone using the receive information and known locations of the first, second and third base stations. Advantageously, this embodiment of the present invention actually decreases the interference level contribution of the first base station, and requires little change to the network side of existing wireless communication standards and no change to the mobile-telephone side.

摘要: The present invention is a reduced iteration decoder circuit and method to compute error-locator sequence values for use in the correction of bit errors in Reed-Solomon or BCH coded information. By utilizing special properties of Reed-Solomon code and BCH codes, the decoder circuit of the present invention can detect n symbol errors using approximately n mathematical iterations with substantially reduced decoding processing time. A further reduction of decoding time is achieved by the performance of a substantial portion of the decoding processing in a parallel manner. The present invention may be utilized in digital communication systems and data storage systems or other information systems where Reed-Solomon or BCH encoding is utilized.

摘要: Despreading of the received signal in a CDMA system is provided using code coefficient sequences which are derived from those utilized by the system users to encode their respective symbols. Each derived code coefficient sequence is a function of the correlation between a different user's code coefficient sequence and the code coefficient sequences of all other users. Advantageously, this technique substantially reduces interference effects and is suitable for use in the despreader of differentially or nondifferentially coded CDMA systems.

摘要: In one embodiment the method includes allocating, for a mobile, forward link resources for transmitting data over a shared forward link data channel without allocating reverse link resources for reverse link data transmission in association with the allocated forward link resources. At least a portion of the received data is repeatedly sent to the mobile on the shared forward link data channel over a time division multiple access air interface using the allocated forward link resources until an acknowledgement is received from the mobile or a number of transmissions have taken place.

摘要: A system for joint reverse link access and traffic channel overload control in a cellular network includes relieving the reverse link total loading to optimize resource utilization and distribution among different types of mobile device users. The cellular network includes a plurality of mobile stations that wirelessly communicate with a base station over a reverse link, using a CDMA or similar communications protocol. A joint access and traffic overload control module creates an access channel load relief plan, a traffic channel load relief plan and then relieves the total loading of the reverse link based upon both the access channel load relief plan and the traffic channel load relief plan.
