The lamp has a discharge sustaining fill of mercury vapor and an inert gas having 1-100 mole % xenon, balance comprising a rare gas or rare gas mixture, such as krypton or argon. The fill gas has a total pressure of 0.5-4 torr, and the lamp being adapted to operate below 10 watts per foot of arc length.

    摘要: A new ballast circuit for automotive high intensity discharge (HID) applications is disclosed. The ballast utilizes two DC/DC converters and two low frequency inverter switches. The ballast also includes an integrated high voltage ignition circuit. The positive DC/DC converter builds up a high ignition voltage in addition to raising the DC positive bus. When the lamp breaks down, the DC bus voltage decreases and the ignition circuit falls inactive. The DC/DC stages are then alternately conductive to supply power to the lamp via the low frequency inverter switches. The disclosed ballast reduces the number of switches used to four from a typical six, it utilizes independently controlled voltage sources, and provides a more efficient run-up voltage waveform during pre-steady state running of the lamp.

    摘要: Optoelectronic components, specifically, ceramic optical sub-assemblies are described. In one aspect, the optoelectronic component includes a ceramic base substrate having a pair of angled (or substantially perpendicular) faces. The electrical traces are formed directly on the ceramic surfaces and extend between the pair of faces. A semiconductor chip assembly is mounted on the first face of the ceramic base substrate and a photonic device is mounted on the second face. Both the semiconductor chip assembly and the photonic device are electrically connected to traces on the ceramic base substrate. The semiconductor chip assembly is generally arranged to be electrically connected to external devices. The photonic devices are generally arranged to optically communicate with one or more optical fibers. The described structure may be used with a wide variety of photonic devices. It is particularly well adapted for use with vertical cavity surface emitting lasers (or laser arrays) and detectors (or detector arrays). In some embodiments, at least the cathode of the photonic device is soldered directly to a cathode pad on the base substrate. Similarly, in some embodiments, the semiconductor chip assembly is electrically connected to the base substrate by direct soldering. Specific base substrate structures are disclosed as well.

    摘要: A controller for positioning on a shelf of a cabinet within a mass storage system for controlling communication among device enclosures in a reporting group. The controller includes an interface to a data communication loop linking device enclosures each including disk drives positioned on one or more cabinets. The interface is used to transmit control commands. A cabinet bus interface controller is provided and linked to a cabinet bus in the cabinet to receive enclosure reporting messages from the device enclosures to collect environment information. The cabinet bus interface transmits reporting messages onto the cabinet bus to provide environmental information. The interface controller determines the shelf location of the controller within the cabinet from signals on the cabinet bus and receives the cabinet identifier over the cabinet bus. A processor is linked to the interface controller and functions to create and issue the control commands to the loop interface.
