    摘要: Various embodiments of the present invention are directed to computer buses that can be used to distribute data between components of various computer systems. In one aspect, a computer bus includes multiple opto-electronic engines disposed within a housing and multiple flexible connectors. Each flexible connector extends through an opening in the housing and is coupled at a first end to an opto-electronic engine and at a second to an electronic device. The flexible connectors enable the bus to be placed in different orientations and positions in order to optimize space and connectivity requirements or limitations.

    摘要: A flexible optical interconnect and method of forming the interconnect is disclosed. The optical interconnect includes a waveguide base formed from a flexible dielectric material. A three-sided channel is formed in the flexible material. Each side of the channel is coated with a reflective metallic coating. A cover piece is formed from the flexible material and coated with a reflective metallic coating on an underside. The cover piece is coupled to the waveguide base to form a flexible optical bus having at least one hollow metallized waveguide. The hollow metallized waveguide is configured to carry an optical signal. A transverse slot is formed in the cover piece and the waveguide base to form an aperture bisecting the hollow metallized waveguide to enable the optical signal to be detected and/or redirected.

    摘要: A monolithically integrated, self-aligning, optical-fiber ferrule for a pigtailed opto-electronic module. The ferrule includes a body, a cavity defined within the body, a lateral alignment structure, and an optical-fiber stop. The cavity is to accept and align an optical fiber with an end of the cavity to face an optical aperture of an opto-electronic component. The lateral alignment structure is to self-align laterally the optical fiber with the optical aperture. The optical-fiber stop is coupled to the body, to self-align vertically the optical fiber. The body, the cavity, the lateral alignment structure and the optical-fiber stop are integrated together as a portion of a monolithically integrated chip. A system and a pigtailed opto-electronic engine that include the ferrule are also provided.

    摘要: Waveguide array optical power splitters that provide compact, low-cost implementation of optical power splitting for one and two dimensional optical waveguide arrays are disclosed. The optical power splitters do not introduce mode dependent loss and preserve polarization, enabling the optical power splitters to be used with multimode and single mode light sources. In one aspect, an optical power splitter includes a beamsplitter to receive a plurality of incident beams of light. The beamsplitter splits each incident beam of light into a plurality of output beams of light with each output beam output in a different direction from the beamsplitter. The optical power splitter includes a first set of lenses with each lens to approximately collimate one of the incident beams of light, and includes a second set of lenses with each lens to focus the output beams of light.

    摘要: This disclosure is directed to scalable optical interconnect fabrics for distributing optical signals over a computer systems. In one aspect, an optical interconnect fabric includes a star coupler and a plurality of output optical fibers. Each output optical fiber is connected at a first end to the star coupler and is connected at a second end to a node of a plurality of nodes. The fabric also includes the input optical fiber connected at a first end to the star coupler and connected at a second end to a node of the plurality of nodes. The star coupler is to receive at least one optical signal via the input optical fiber, is to split each optical signal into a plurality of optical signals with approximately the same optical power, and is to output each optical signal into one of the output optical fibers.
