    摘要: An optical device includes a modulator and a tap coupler. The modulator includes an optical waveguide that is formed of a thin-film lithium niobate (LN) substrate and through which light passes, and an electrode that applies voltage to the optical waveguide, and modulates a phase of light that passes through the optical waveguide in accordance with an electric field in the optical waveguide, where the electric field corresponds to the voltage. The tap coupler includes at least a part formed of the thin-film LN substrate, and splits a part of the light that passes through an inside of the optical waveguide. The tap coupler includes a delayed interferometer that splits a part of the light that passes through the optical waveguide, at a split ratio corresponding to a phase difference of light that passes through an inside of the tap coupler from the optical waveguide.

    摘要: A technique that does not increase the circuit size, does not make the circuit design and manufacturing difficult, and can reduce insertion loss when light enters from a slab waveguide toward an arrayed waveguide or when the light enters from the arrayed waveguide toward the slab waveguide. An optical waveguide provided with a slab waveguide in which a grating is formed therein at a distance from an end, and an arrayed waveguide whose end is connected to an end of the slab waveguide at a position where a constructive interference portion of a self-image of the grating is formed. An arrayed waveguide grating provided with a first input/output waveguide, the above-mentioned optical waveguide where an end of the slab waveguide on the opposite side of the arrayed waveguide is connected to an end of the first input/output waveguide, a second slab waveguide connected to an end of the arrayed waveguide on the opposite side of the slab waveguide, and a second input/output waveguide connected to an end of the second slab waveguide on the opposite side of the arrayed waveguide.

    摘要: An optical interferometer based on multi-mode interference (MMI) devices includes an input port, an output port, a first MMI device connected to the input port at an input face of the first MMI device, a second MMI device connected to the first output port at an output face of the second MMI device. In the optical interferometer, an output face of the first MMI device and an input face of the second MMI device are directly connected, the first MMI device includes a first and a second self-imaging points at an interface between the first MMI device and the second MMI device, and a propagation axis of the second MMI device is tilted with respect to a propagation axis of the first MMI device, causing a path length difference between an upper optical path via the first self-imaging point and a lower optical path via the second self-imaging point.

    摘要: A coherent optical mixer circuit is provided that can measure a phase error without requiring a step of cutting away a delay circuit. Odd-numbered or even-numbered two of four inputs of an 4-input-and-4-output multimode interference circuit are connected to an input mechanism. The four outputs of the multimode interference circuit are all connected to an output mechanism to the exterior. Other two inputs of the multimode interference circuit are connected to two monitor waveguides. One of the monitor waveguide is longer than the other to configure a light delay circuit. The monitor waveguides constituting the light delay circuit are connected to the respective outputs of a 2-branched light splitter. The 2-branched light splitter has an input connected to a monitor light input mechanism from the exterior via a monitor input waveguide.
