Abstract:
A method of recording data on a compact disc is provided includes modulating the data of 1 byte to p-channel bits, recording the modulated data when a minimum mark length is greater than 0.5 nullm and smaller than 1.0 nullm, p/q is greater than 4.5 and smaller than 8 when the minimum mark length corresponds to q-channel bits, and a format efficiency is greater than 0.6 and smaller than 1.0. Thus, data can be recorded on an existing compact disc at a higher density.
Abstract:
An optical recording medium on which a header signal having multi-modulated header information is recorded, an apparatus and method of recording the header signal, and an apparatus and method of reproducing header information from the header signal of the optical recording medium which includes a wobbled track on which user data is recorded, and a header area in which a header signal having multi-modulated header information is recorded. Accordingly, the optical recording medium increases the recording density of header information, thereby providing a wider user data area.
Abstract:
A high-density optical recording medium and method of recording data on the optical recording medium. The optical recording medium includes a plurality of data recording/reproducing surfaces having reflectances for light passing through a pit area, a land/groove area, and a land/groove area on which data are recorded, of a data recording/reproducing surface included between a light source for emitting light and a recording/reproducing surface selected from the plurality of data recording/reproducing surfaces, the reflectances satisfy the expressions r1nullr2nullr3 and null(r1-r3)/r3nullnull0.2, where r1, r2 and r3 are the reflectances of the pit area, the land/groove area and the land groove area on which data are recorded, respectively.
Abstract:
An information storage medium includes BCA marks, having unique information, formed near the outer edge of the information storage medium. The BCA marks may be formed at the outermost edge of the information storage medium. This new layout enables miniaturization of the information storage medium so that the information storage medium is applicable to portable information recording and reproduction apparatuses.
Abstract:
An information storage medium having a plurality of information storage layers, each of which includes an optimal power control (OPC) area for obtaining an optimal recording condition. Optimal power control areas in odd-numbered and even-numbered information storage layers viewed from a direction in which light is incident upon the information storage medium are disposed one on another to not directly face each other. An actually usable area of an optimal power control area in each of the information storage layers varies depending on use circumstances of each of the information storage layers. Therefore, when an OPC area of one information storage layer performs OPC, this OPC does not affect another information storage layer. Also, an area of each of the information storage layers can be efficiently used.
Abstract:
A method of and apparatus for recording data on an optical recording medium form a mark or a space by using a recording waveform having an erase pattern containing a multi-pulse. The method and the apparatus prevent distortion of the mark or the space and improve a mark shape such that a recording/reproducing characteristic of the optical recording medium is improved.
Abstract:
A method of recording information to a read-only optical information storage medium comprising a plurality of areas, including: recording data in at least one of the plurality of areas in the form of pits in a first pit pattern; and recording data in others of the plurality of areas in the form of pits in a second pit pattern different from the first.
Abstract:
A recording medium storing a write protection information, and a write protection method for protecting data recorded on a recordable and/or rewritable disc from unwanted overwriting or erasing. In order for write protection of a disc in a bare state that is usually used in a cartridge having a recognition switch for write-protection, such as a DVD-RAM, write protection information is recorded in a Lead-in area, a Lead-out area or a recording information area other than a user data area of the disc, and the data is protected from unwanted overwriting or erasing using the write protection information. Also, even though the write protection information stored on a disc does not match the state of a recognition switch of a case for write-protection, the data can be prevented from unwanted overwriting or erasing. Thus, the write protection can be ensured when a recordable and/or rewritable recording medium, such as DVD-RAM, DVD-R and DVD-RW, is used in a bare state.
Abstract:
A method, apparatus and computer readable medium for managing recording medium defects and a defect managed recording medium. The recording medium includes a spare area in which a replacement area, which is a substitute for a defective area of the recording medium, is formed, and a temporary defect management area in which temporary management information that specifies the defective area and the corresponding replacement area is recorded, wherein position information and state information regarding the defective area are recorded in the replacement area. Accordingly, it is possible to restore defect information even if recording medium defect management on the recording medium ended abnormally.
Abstract:
An information storage medium in which speed information has been recorded, and a method of recording and/or reproducing data on the information storage medium. The information storage medium includes a reproduction-only area in which recording speed information and/or reproducing speed information which indicate whether a drive can record and/or reproduce data on the information storage medium are recorded. The method of recording and/or reproducing data in an information storage medium, the method includes: recording, as reproduction-only data in a reproduction-only area, recording speed information and/or reproducing speed information, which is used to indicate speed capabilities to a drive; and recording or reproducing data on the information storage medium when a recording speed or a reproducing speed capability of the drive matches the recording speed information or the reproducing speed information.
