    摘要: A stacked actuator arm assembly has an actuator arm and spacer stacked on a rotatable pivot bearing sleeve. The stacked actuator arm assembly has a nut washer on the pivot bearing sleeve where the nut washer has an extension to maintain its proper position. One spacer has an overmold, and the actuator arm is registered in rotational position to the overmold. A load beam for each actuator arm has its proximal end attached to the actuator arm and its distal end supporting a read/write head. A clamping nut is threaded on the sleeve to clamp the actuator arms and spacers together. A registration nut washer is registered in rotational position to the overmold so that, as the nut tightens down on the stacked actuator arm assembly, the nut washer does not rotate relative to the actuator arms and spacers. The registration nut washer has a key extension that engages a slot in the overmold to register the nut washer in rotational position to the overmold. Alternatively, the registration nut washer has an extension for a hole receiving a threaded pin to fasten the actuator assembly together, and this hole extension engages a registration surface on the overmold to register the nut washer in rotational position to the overmold.

    摘要: A force sensor for measuring force and/or torque about a single axis or multiple axes is rugged, inexpensive and can be fabricated over a wide range of sizes. The force sensor includes first and second members that are coupled to each other by an elastomeric flexure that allows at least one member to be movable with respect to the other member when a force is applied. The force sensor includes a transmitting coil or printed circuit trace and a receiving coil or printed circuit trace. In one embodiment, the transmitting and receiving coils are formed on different ones of the first and second members. In another embodiment, the transmitting and receiving coils are formed on the same member and the other member is formed as a shading plate. A signal applied to the transmitting coil induces a signal in the receiving coil that represents the force applied.

In accordance with an embodiment of the present invention, a power controller includes a detector circuit adapted to detect the output of the laser diode and to produce a measured output therefrom. A comparator compares a desired output to the measured output, and produces an error signal therefrom. The error signal is provided to an integrator circuit that produces an integrated error signal. At least one digital-to-analog converter (DAC) uses the integrated error signal to produce a current drive signal that drives the laser diode.

The voice coil motor coupling structure includes a countersink formed in the lower yoke, a countersunk head screw inserted in the countersink and coupled to a screw coupling hole provided in the base plate to fix the lower yoke to the base plate, a boss insertion hole formed in each of the lower and upper yokes at both end portions in a lengthwise direction, a boss protruding from the base plate and inserted in each of the boss insertion holes to prevent horizontal movements of the lower yoke and the upper yoke, and a screw inserted in each of the boss insertion holes and coupled to a screw coupling hole provided at each boss to fixedly couple the upper yoke to the lower yoke. Thus, the lower yoke of the voice coil motor can be stably fixed at an accurate position not only on a flat type base plate but also on a bowl type base plate.

    摘要: A damping assembly for the actuator of high performance disk drive assembly is formed from multiple materials. The damping assembly is added to the actuator to dampen vibration that occurs during operation of the drive. The damping assembly is connected to an exterior portion of a coil region of the actuator. The damping assembly helps dampen vibration modes for coil torsion and coil bending, thereby improving dynamics settling performance to improve overall file input/output throughput performance. This also allows for a higher voice coil motor torque constant by increasing the magnet radius, thereby also improving move time, which further improves file input/output throughput performance. The overall file performance is improved by reducing settling times associated with coil torsion and coil bending modes, and allowing a higher torque constant to also improve move time. Both of these effects contribute to improving file performance.
