Abstract:
RFID readers, systems, and methods are provided for overcoming the effects of RF interference. While a system is communicating in a channel, RF interference is monitored. If it is low, then the next channel to be hopped onto is chosen in an unbiased manner. But if interference is high, then the next channel to be hopped onto is chosen in a biased manner that disfavors at least one channel over another, in view of the detected interference. The choice of the next channel can thus result in diminishing communication in channels with a lot of RF interference.
Abstract:
A transmitter shifts a baseband data signal having a bandwidth of 2ωM using a tone signal having a frequency ωM, which centers a sideband of the data signal at zero frequency. The transmitter then filters the shifted signal to filter out the non-centered sideband, and then adds the tone signal to form a composite signal. The transmitter upconverts the composite signal during a first operational mode using a RF signal having a frequency ωC equal to a center frequency of a channel. In a second operational mode, the transmitter upconverts a DC level using the same RF signal. The upconverted DC level can be used as a continuous wave carrier signal having a frequency ωC. The transmitter has a single RF oscillator to output both a SSB signal centered at frequency ωC during the first mode and a carrier signal of frequency ωC during the second mode.

Abstract:
An RFID tag has a fuse that is adapted to store configuration data in a way that survives loss of power. The fuse can be one time programmable or many times programmable, and be implemented with a non-volatile memory. The configuration data becomes available to an operational component of the tag, such as at power up, controlling its performance.
Abstract:
An RFID reader inventories a population of tags. The reader evaluates responses from tags by categorizing them in slots. As tags are inventoried, the number of slots based on a Q-parameter is reduced. The reader addresses the tags by communicating a Q1 value for the Q parameter, generates first contents from replies received from the tags, and computes a first merit statistic based on the first contents. Next, the reader determines a Q2 value for the Q parameter, which if used in the same way would meet a preset fairway condition better than the first merit statistic. After determining the Q2 value, the reader addresses a portion of the tags by communicating the Q2 value for the Q parameter.

The present invention relates to compositions and methods which enhance the delivery of nucleic acids and other nucleosidic moieties via topical routes of administration. The invention relates to the use of an aqueous solution to preferentially deliver nucleic acids preferentially to hair follicles. The invention relates to a method of inhibiting hair growth comprising administration of a nucleic acid preferentially to a hair follicle.
Abstract:
RFID readers transmit data to query RFID tags. Before transmitting the data, the RFID readers also transmit special preambles that inform of parameters of communication that are to be used. RFID tags decode the preamble, and adjust accordingly to optimize the communication. The preambles of the invention start with a delimiter that has a substantially constant duration regardless of the communication parameters that will be used, such as transmission data rate.
Abstract:
A bottle cap remover can include structure for facilitating the assembly of the bottle cap remover. The structure can include a slot established within the top portion of an interior surface of the body of the bottle cap remover. The cover of the bottle cap remover, by comparison, can include an indexing guide formed within the interior surface of the cover which can cooperatively mate with a companion guide in the body of the bottle cap remover to ensure the proper alignment of the cover with the body. Moreover, a circular trench about the interior perimeter of the cover can facilitate the mating and securing of the cover to the body of the bottle cap remover.
Abstract:
Polypropylene heterophasic copolymers are produced having increased impact strength through the use of controlled rheology techniques by the addition of a peroxide at conditions which increase the deactivation or half life of the peroxide. The increased half life slows down the vis-breaking process and allows better dispersion of rubber particles within the polymer. In this way, copolymers having a high melt flow can be prepared while obtaining high impact strength and lower stiffness values, without the need for additional elastomeric modifiers.
Abstract:
Apparatus, methods, and articles of manufacture for encoding a compressed media stream are disclosed. Example method of watermarking a digital media signal disclosed herein include copying compressed audio packets associated with an audio stream included in a transport stream of the digital media signal into respective frames of compressed audio data to be watermarked to include media identification information. Such example methods can also include determining whether a composition of the transport stream has changed during copying of the compressed audio packets into the respective frames of the compressed audio data. Such example methods can further include, if the composition of the transport stream has changed, writing the frames of the compressed audio data to an output stream corresponding to the digital media signal without applying a watermark to the frames of the compressed audio data.
