An object of the present invention is to provide a technology of preventing, in an exhaust gas recirculation system having a low pressure EGR passage that recirculates a part of the exhaust gas from the exhaust passage at some point downstream of the exhaust gas purification apparatus to the intake passage, fragments of the exhaust gas purification apparatus from entering the intake system through the low pressure EGR passage in case that breakage of the exhaust gas purification apparatus occurs. The inventive system has a low pressure EGR valve provided in the low pressure EGR passage, an EGR control unit (S101-S103) for recirculating exhaust gas to the intake passage by opening the low pressure EGR valve, and a breakage detection unit (S104-S107) for detecting breakage of the exhaust gas purification apparatus. When breakage of the exhaust gas purification apparatus is detected, the low pressure EGR valve is closed (S108).

In the present invention, the restricting member (26) is controlled by the synchronizing member (36). The synchronizing member (36) detects the acceleration of the inner body (23) so that the restricting member (26) may restrict the mutual displacement between the outer body (22) and the inner body (23) in timely manner.

There is provided a double-face driving silent chain wherein the size of each inner link plate of an exterior driving link train to a back face thereof is set to be equal to or greater than the size of each link plate of an interior driving link train. Thereby, inner side planes of the back face of the inner link plate abut against the both side planes of an interior driving sprocket and guide and prevent the silent chain from engaging with the sprocket in twist. The worked molybdenum-alloy material is manufactured by subjecting a worked alloy material, which has a matrix composed of molybdenum, in which at least one of carbide particles, oxide particles, and boride particles is precipitated and dispersed and in which at least one of titanium, zirconium, hafnium, vanadium, niobium, and tantalum is dissolved to form a solid solution, to multi-step internal nitriding treatment including a stepwise increase of the treatment temperature.

A variable-geometry turbocharger and a low-pressure EGR passage are provided. The variable-geometry turbocharger includes a turbine provided in an exhaust passage, and a compressor provided in an intake passage. In the variable-geometry turbocharger, the cross sectional area of a path through which exhaust gas passes is adjusted by adjusting the opening degree of a nozzle vane. The low-pressure EGR passage connects the area of the exhaust passage downstream of the turbine to the area of the intake passage upstream of the compressor. The EGR gas is recirculated to the intake passage through the low-pressure EGR passage. The EGR gas is directed to flow through the low-pressure EGR passage when a vehicle is decelerating or when fuel supply to the internal combustion engine is cut off. The pressure in the intake passage is adjusted toward a target pressure by adjusting the opening degree of the nozzle vane when the EGR gas flows through the low-pressure EGR passage.

The present invention provides a refractory-metal-based alloy material having a remarkably enhanced toughness and strength, by internally nitriding a nitride-forming metal element incorporated as a solid solution into an alloy worked piece, which has a parent phase consisting of one element selecting from Mo, W and Cr, at a temperature equal to or lower than a recrystallization upper limit temperature of the worked piece to dispersedly yield ultra-fine nitride particles to the worked piece and thereby raise a recrystallization lower limit temperature of the worked piece, and then subjecting the internally nitrided worked piece to a second nitriding treatment at a temperature equal to or more than the raised recrystallization lower limit temperature, wherein at least in the surface region of the worked piece has a structure in which ultra-fine nitride precipitated particles are grown and stabilized with keeping the worked structure of the worked piece.
