Abstract: An exhaust gas treatment system for an internal combustion engine includes an exhaust gas pathway that receives exhaust gas from the engine, a temperature sensor configured to generate a temperature signal associated with a temperature of the exhaust gas at a position along the exhaust gas pathway, and a reductant source. The system also includes first and second injectors in fluid communication with the reductant source. The first and second injectors are configured to inject reductant into the exhaust gas pathway at first and second rates. The system also includes a first treatment element positioned downstream of the first injector and within the exhaust gas pathway, and a controller in communication with the temperature sensor. The controller is configured to receive the temperature signal from the temperature sensor and adjust at least one of the first rate or the second rate based at least in part on the temperature signal.

Abstract: A device for diagnosing a particulate filter suitable for: determining a measured pressure time profile, and a theoretical pressure time profile upstream of the filter, implementing, on each profile: low-pass filtering to obtain a first filtered time profile, second low-pass filtering of the first filtered time profile to obtain a second filtered time profile, calculating a difference between the second filtered time profile and the first filtered time profile, obtaining an absolute value of the calculated difference, and calculating an integral of the absolute value, and, from a comparison between the two integrals, a diagnosis of the particulate filter.

Abstract: The invention relates to an exhaust gas aftertreatment system for an internal combustion engine, in particular for a gasoline engine that is spark-ignited by means of spark plugs. A first three-way catalytic converter is situated in an exhaust gas system that is connected to an outlet of the internal combustion engine in a position close to the engine. Downstream from the first three-way catalytic converter, a four-way catalytic converter or a combination of a particle filter and a second three-way catalytic converter downstream from the particle filter is situated in the underbody position of the motor vehicle. An exhaust gas burner with which hot exhaust gas is introducible into the exhaust gas system downstream from the first three-way catalytic converter and upstream from the four-way catalytic converter or the particle filter is provided at an exhaust duct of the exhaust gas system. The exhaust gas burner is supplied with fresh air by a secondary air pump. The invention further relates to a method for exhaust aftertreatment of an internal combustion engine having such an exhaust gas aftertreatment system.

Abstract: A method for determining the state of loading of a particle filter in an exhaust system of a turbocharged internal combustion engine is provided. To determine the state of loading, a position of a control mechanism of the turbine of the exhaust turbocharger is detected and compared with the position during operation of the internal combustion engine with the same operating parameters with the particle filter unladen. An air mass meter is provided in order to be able to distinguish a change in the pressure situation at the turbine of the exhaust turbocharger due to a rise in the exhaust gas backpressure owing to increasing loading of the particle filter from a change in the pressure situation owing to leakage of the air supply system. An internal combustion engine having a control unit which is configured to carry out such a method is also provided.

Abstract: System and methods for reducing secondary emissions in an exhaust stream from an internal combustion engine are disclosed. The systems and methods include a filtration device positioned downstream from an SCR catalyst of an aftertreatment system disposed in the exhaust system. Abstract: A diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) delivery system and method for operating same. The method includes controlling a pump to operate at an idle speed to pressurize a pressure line. The method includes controlling a backflow dosing module (BFDM) valve to open to allow an amount of the DEF to flow into a fluid storage tank through a backflow line. The method includes determining a dosing request, a first dosing actuation request for the first dosing valve and a second dosing actuation request for the second dosing valve based on the dosing request. The method includes, when a sum of the first and second dosing actuation requests is less than 100%, controlling the BFDM valve to close when either of the first and second dosing valves is open; and controlling the BFDM valve to open when the first dosing valve is closed and the second dosing valve is closed.
