Abstract:
A method and system for managing power consumption in a portable computing device having a network interface module is presented. A power management module receives inputs from other modules and determines when the network interface module is to be put in a doze state for a predetermined number of beacon intervals to conserve power consumption in the network interface module. The network interface module in a device that is associated with a network is put in the doze state after an event has occurred including when a scan has been performed, after a delayed sleep timer has expired, and after a beacon transmission has been completed and no traffic is buffered for the device. The delayed sleep time is set based on the estimated round trip time of a packet.
Abstract:
A cryogenic adsorption pump, system and method including adsorbent material contained in a first container, wherein the first container is cooled inside of a second container. The second container is filled with a cryogenic liquid to effectuate the cooling of the first container, creating a vacuum in the first container. A valve of the first container is opened, thereby allowing the vacuum to collect an air sample many times the volume of the first container, and allowing the adsorbent material to collect and contain airborne particles. The collected air and particles are retrieved and tested by heating the first container or allowing the first container to reach room temperature, and opening the first valve.
Abstract:
A method, schema and computer system for a location service provides data structures that are extensible by allowing different types of location awareness applications to retrieve and deposit location data. The method includes providing an abstract location object arranged in a schema to enable servicing a received request for a logical location of an electronic endpoint; and arranging one or more location elements within the context of the abstract location object. The location elements are configured to act as peers relative to the logical location and each location element is configured to act as a proxy relative to any other location element within the abstract location object.
Abstract:
A spread spectrum base station comprises an automatic gain control (AGC) circuit having an input configured to receive a received spread spectrum signal and gain control the received spread spectrum signal to produce a gain controlled signal. A correlation circuit has an input configured to receive the gain controlled signal and correlate the gain controlled signal with a code to produce a despread signal. A power measurement and comparator circuit is configured to receive the despread signal and a control level of the AGC circuit. The circuit processes at least the despread signal and the control level to produce a processed signal and compares the processed signal with a threshold to produce a comparison signal. The comparison signal is used to produce a power command. A multiplexer multiplexes the power command with a signal for transmission over an antenna.
Abstract:
A host computer communicatively linked with a virtual circuit network and communicatively linked with a device over a local area network receives a virtual circuit message from the virtual circuit network, such as an asynchronous transfer mode network. A data structure associating a virtual circuit of the virtual circuit network with the device is referenced, and based on the association, the virtual circuit message is passed to the device over the local area network. The data structure may be a table containing an entry associating the virtual circuit with the device or with the network address of the device.
Abstract:
The invention makes possible remote control of devices in a piconet by remote users communicating over the Internet and the like by providing a proxy-bridge device. The proxy-bridge device is a bridge for sending packets to and from between an external device and a device in the piconet. Moreover, the proxy-bridge device also serves as a proxy for the external device to devices in the piconet and as a proxy for devices in the piconet accessing an external device. The proxy-bridge wireless device's protocol stack allows communications with the piconet devices within the piconet. In addition, the protocol stack allows an application to communicate with a remote device e.g., via the Internet Protocol. Thus, the proxy-bridge device, using two protocols, enables remote users discover the presence of a service offered by a device in a piconet as a logical embedded device within the proxy-bridge device and vice-versa.
Abstract:
Systems and methods can be operable to provide subscription service level based channel assignment for network devices. In some implementations, such systems and methods can operate to create service flow list for use in assigning channels to CPE devices (e.g., modems, eMTAs, STBs, etc.). Such systems and methods can assist in assigning CPE devices to channels that correspond to their subscribed service level, thereby facilitating delivery of the proper level of service.
Abstract:
The generation and delivery of key frames to clients of a video conference are performed in response to a need for a synchronization point. Instead of automatically sending a key frame periodically to each of the clients in the video conference, a key frame is sent to one or more clients upon the occurrence of an event in the video conference. For example, a key frame may be sent to a client when the client joins the video conference. A key frame may also be sent to a client that has packet loss, upon the request of a client, a speaker change within the video conference, when a new stream is added by the client, and the like. The clients in the video conference that are not affected by the event continue to receive predicted frames.
Abstract:
A multi-layer laminate media is provided on which information may be applied in machine or human readable form on a visible front surface by the output of one or more lasers, or other high intensity light source. In a preferred embodiment, the media has three layers including preferably transparent substrate, a thermochromic layer and a light absorbent layer located intermediate the media substrate and the thermochromic layer. The light absorbent layer is adapted to absorb light from the light source and convert the absorbed light into heat. The heat is immediately conducted into selected portions of the thermochromic layer which is in thermal contact with the light absorbent layer, causing portions of the thermochromic layer to change visual appearance such as color to create the desired mark. The media optimally includes obscuration materials to reduce the visibility of the light absorbent layer to the naked eye. The light absorbent layer absorbs light in the NIR and visible light wavelength ranges of light and is preferably a low cost absorber such as carbon black. The invention also includes a manually operated produce labeling system utilizing the multi-layer laminate media. A rewinder is also provided which utilizes the multi-layer laminate media.
