The clathrate compound according to the present invention which comprises, as host crystals, crystals of a polyvalent metal salt of a specific nuclear-substituted salicylic acid or a hydrate thereof and, as a gest molecule, an organic compound having 1 to 12 carbon atoms is well soluble in organic solvents or organic compounds having relatively low polarity and has good stability to light rays and NO.sub.x gases and, therefore, the clathrate compound has excellent properties favorable for use as antibiotics, stabilizers for polymeric compounds and developers for recording materials.

A process for producing a high quality di(aryloxy)alkane with a high yield by the use of readily commercially available materials, without using any particular solvent or agent and by means of a simple operation and a general apparatus is provided, which process comprises subjecting a halogenated alkane of the formula (II)X--A--Y (II)wherein X and Y each represent a halogen atom and A represents a lower alkylene group, and a phenol of the formula (III) ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 to R.sub.5 each are same or different, represent hydrogen, halogen, lower alkyl, lower alkoxy, carboxylic acid salt, acyl or nitro group, and may form a ring in conjunction of two adjacent groups,to condensation reaction in the presence of an alkali in an aqueous medium to form a di(aryloxy)alkane of the formula (I) ##STR2## and is characterized (i) by carrying out the condensation reaction in a molar ratio of the compound of the formula (II): the phenol of the formula (III): the alkali in terms of monovalent base of 1:1.5 to 3.0:1.5 to 3.0; or(ii) by carrying out the condensation reaction of the above (i) and adjusting the quantity of the aqueous medium phase after completion of the reaction can be 35% or less based on the oily phase; or(iii) by carrying out the condensation reaction of the above (i), feeding at least the alkali among the reaction components with progress of the reaction and adjusting the quantity of the aqueous medium phase as described in the above (ii).

An aqueous dispersion of a developer for pressure-sensitive recording sheet, having superior handling performance and storage stability in a high concentration and a process for producing the dispersion are provided, which developer is expressed by the formula ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 may be the same or different and represent H, halogen, alkyl of 1 to 9 carbon atoms, alkylene, cycloalkyl, cycloalkylene, phenyl, nucleus-substituted phenyl, aralkyl or nucleus-aralkyl; adjacent two of R.sub.1 to R.sub.4 may form a ring; n is an integer of one or more; and M is Mg, Ca, Zn, Al, Fe, Co, Ni or a basic ion of the foregoing, and which developer has a softening point of 30.degree. C. or higher and is dispersed in water, containing a dispersing agent, the size of particles of the developer being 0.3 to 5.mu. in terms of average particle diameter, and the proportion of right spherical particles in the total particles being 50% or more; and which process comprises emulsifying-dispersing the developer in water containing a dispersing agent at a temperature higher by at least 30.degree. C. than the softening point of the developer, follower by cooling, or dissolving the developer in an organic solvent, emulsifying-dispersing the solution in water containing a dispersing agent and distilling off the solvent from the dispersion on heating, or using a polyvinyl alcohol having a polymerization degree of 500 or more and a saponification degree of 70% or more.

In the coexistence of an a 5.about.20 molar excess of water based upon 2-phenylphenol compound which is reacted with phosphorus trihalide to form a 6-halo-(6H)-dibenzo[c.e][1,2]-oxaphosphorin compound and an organic solvent which is unsoluble in water and is inert in the reaction system, an organic phosphorus compound expressed by the structural formula (1) is hydrolyzed under heating to obtain a biphenyl phosphorus compound expressed by the general formula (2) and then, a cyclising dehydration reaction under heating of the resulting compound is carried out to obtain an organic phosphorus compound expressed by the structural formula (3). This constitution can produce a product of high purity and high quality without using specific chemicals or an equipment made of specific materials.
