A variable intake- and/or exhaust-valve timing control system for an internal combustion engine comprises a cam sprocket having a driven connection with an engine crankshaft, a camshaft, a ring gear provided between the camshaft and the cam sprocket for adjusting a relative phase angle between the cam sprocket and the camshaft, and a ring gear drive mechanism for drivingly controlling the ring gear via fluid pressure created by an engine oil pump, depending upon the operating state of the engine. The drive mechanism includes a subsidiary oil pump for supplying a fluid pressure greater than a designated pressure level to the ring gear, during low engine speed and high engine load.

The Z-axis drive mechanisms for moving an upper frame vertically are disposed at four corners of a mount. The upper chamber is supported by the upper frame and has an upper table inside. The lower chamber has a lower table inside and is supported on the mount. The upper and lower chambers are united through a seal ring to define a vacuum chamber. Moving the upper frame moves the upper chamber vertically to open or close the vacuum chamber. The lower table is supported via a free joint stage between the plurality of support legs and the table, and is moved horizontally by a side thrust mechanism disposed outside of the vacuum chamber.

The harmful components can be removed by bringing it into contact with a crystalline cupric hydroxide. The harmful components can be detected based on the color change of the copper hydroxide.

A valve timing control system includes a timing sprocket, a camshaft, a sleeve secured to the camshaft and accomodated within the timing sprocket. A helical piston assembly and a floating piston are movably disposed in an annular space between the timing sprocket and the sleeve. An end plug is disposed at one end of the timing sprocket to close one end of the annular space. First and second chambers are defined between the floating piston and the end plug and between the floating piston and the helical piston assembly, respectively. A valve spool is operatively connected to an actuator and movably disposed in the sleeve. The valve spool moves among first, second and third positions. At the first position, the first and second chambers are drained. At the second position, the first chamber is communicated with a hydraulic fluid pump and the second chamber is drained. At the third position, the first and second chambers are communicated with the hydraulic fluid pump.

A plurality of adhesive pins are provided on an adhesive pin plate which can move up and down independently from the upper table.
