摘要： There is provided a calf compression device for reducing the risk of deep vein thrombosis which comprises an inflatable cuff (100, 200) adapted to be wrapped around the whole or part of a calf of a human person and a pump (104, 204) capable of first inflating the cuff (2) and then deflating the cuff over a regular repeating cycle, said repeating cycle comprising rapidly inflating the cuff (100, 200) to a pressure of between 40 and 70 mm mercury above ambient, maintaining the pressure for 10 to 15 seconds, deflating the cuff (100, 200) over a period of 40 to 50 seconds and then repeating the cycle by rapidly inflating the cuff (100, 200) within 10 seconds of commencement of the cycle.

摘要： Systems and methods for treating hazardous materials are disclosed. One exemplary implementation provides a system for rendering chemical weapons materiel less hazardous. This system includes a detonation chamber, an expansion chamber, and an emission treater adapted to treat gas from detonation of the chemical weapons materiel. The emission treater yields a substantially dry residual waste stream and a treated gas suitable for venting to atmosphere. The emission treater may treat the gas with an alkaline powder that interacts with the gas, producing the residual waste stream.

摘要： A process is provided for the preparation of albumin which has extremely low levels of or is essentially free of colorants, metal ions, human proteins, host proteins, fragments of albumin, polymers or aggregates of albumin and viruses, and which is essentially non-glycated, relatively high in free thiol and with an intact C-terminus. The process comprises passing albumin (preferably expressed and secreted by transformed yeast) through positive mode cation exchange and then positive mode anion exchange chromatography. Other steps may also be employed, for example ultrafiltration, gel permeation chromatography, affinity chromatography binding the albumin and affinity chromatography binding contaminants. Elution of albumin, with a compound having affinity for albumin, from a material having no specific affinity for albumin is also disclosed, as is removal of ammonium ions with a counter-ion.

摘要： An assembly for controlling delivery of material from a bin opening includes a movable bin gate for closing the bin opening and providing a high flow rate of material when the movable gate is open, wherein a low flow aperture is formed in the bin gate to provide a low flow rate of material when the bin gate is positioned such that only the low flow aperture is open. A two-stage flow enhancer within the bin includes a first stage for impelling material in the direction of the low flow aperture and a second stage for impelling material to exit through the low flow aperture. A controller controls operation of the bin gate to adjust a flow rate of material from the bin opening. The controller may include a sensor for providing an actual weight value of material present in a receiving bin and a memory for storing a target weight value for the amount of material in the receiving bin, wherein the controller adjusts the position of the bin gate and the low flow aperture in response to the actual weight value and the target weight value. The bin gate may also be adjusted in response to one or more tolerance values defining proximity to the target weight value and/or in response to one or more threshold weight values, wherein the threshold weight values are less than the target weight value. A method for controlling delivery of material from a bin opening includes the steps of providing at the bin opening a movable bin gate with a low flow aperture and selectively positioning the bin gate using a single actuator to expose only the low flow aperture to the bin opening for material flow or to expose substantially all of the bin opening for material flow.

摘要： The present invention provides a method and apparatus for dispensing a predetermined fixed amount of pre-stretched packaging material based upon load girth. A non-rotating ring carries a belt driven by a motor. A packaging material dispenser is mounted on a rotating ring, and the rotating ring may include a pulley that connects to the band, such that the rotating ring is driven by the drive belt. Based upon the girth of the load to be wrapped, an amount of pre-stretched packaging material to be dispensed for each revolution made by the rotating ring is determined. Good wrapping performance in terms of load containment (wrap force) and optimum packaging material use is obtained by dispensing a length of pre-stretched packaging material that is between approximately 90% and approximately 120% of load girth. Once the amount of packaging material to be dispensed per revolution is determined, a ratio of rotating ring drive to final pre-stretch surface speed (i.e., number of pre-stretch roller revolution/rotating ring rotation) can be set and mechanically controlled. Thus, for each revolution of the rotating ring and dispenser, a predetermined fixed amount of packaging material is dispensed and wrapped around the load. In an alternative embodiment, the ratio is electronically controlled.
