    摘要: A polymeric skin can be molded by heating a mold surface to a temperature sufficient to melt a casting material and controllably projecting particles of the casting material toward the heated mold surface. Particles of the casting material that impinge on the mold surface melt and adhere to the mold surface. The mold surface is cooled to a temperature at which the casting material solidifies to form a skin. By varying the amount or type of material projected toward the heated mold surface, the method can make multilayer skins, skins from more than one material with a graded transition between materials, multicolor skins, and skim having a controlled, nonuniform thickness.

    摘要: A method of making a passenger conveyor handrail includes forming a drive member having a plurality of longitudinally spaced drive surfaces. The drive member has a longitudinal stiffness for maintaining a desired spacing between the drive surfaces. The drive member is inserted into a molding device. A gripping surface portion of the handrail is formed using the molding device such that the gripping surface portion and the drive member are secured together. Another method includes forming a belt drive member having a plurality of teeth that establish a plurality of longitudinally spaced drive surfaces. The belt has a longitudinal stiffness for maintaining a desired spacing between the drive surfaces. Each of the teeth extends across an entire width of the belt. The belt is secured to a gripping surface portion of the handrail.

    摘要: A hybrid fan blade for a gas turbine engine is provided that includes an airfoil and a composite panel. The airfoil has a first side and a second side orientated opposite the first side. The first and second sides extend between a tip, a base, a leading edge and a trailing edge. The airfoil includes a plurality of cavities disposed in the first side of the airfoil, which cavities extend inwardly toward the second side. The cavities collectively form an opening. At least one rib is disposed between the cavities. A shelf is disposed around the opening. The composite panel is attached to the shelf first mounting surface and to the rib, and is sized to enclose the opening. The first composite panel is a load bearing structure operable to transfer loads to the airfoil and receive loads from the airfoil.

    摘要: An aqueous slurry process for producing a diffusion aluminide protective coating in superalloy articles, particularly on internal passages in superalloy articles.Aqueous slurry containing a source of aluminum in particulate form, an inert ceramic particulate, a halide activator compound in particulate form and a viscous aqueous base dispersant is injected into the internal passage or otherwise coated on the internal surface to be protected. The coated article is heated to dry the slurry and remove the aqueous solvent base. The dried, coated article is diffusion heat treated between about 1,350.degree. F. and 2,250.degree. F. for a period of time between approximately 4 hours and 24 hours to transfer the aluminum to the surfaces of the passages and diffuse the aluminum into the substrate material to form the protective coating.
