Abstract: Additive manufacturing can involve dispensing a powdered material to form a layer of a powder bed on a support surface of a build platform. A portion of the layer of the powder bed may be selectively melted or fused to form one or more temporary walls out of the fused portion of the layer of the powder bed to contain another portion of the layer of the powder bed on the build platform.

Abstract: An apparatus for thermally joining thermoplastic fiber composite components includes a pressurization arrangement for jointly covering, at least in a region of a joining zone, thermoplastic fiber composite components to be joined and applying pressure to the thermoplastic fiber composite components to press the thermoplastic fiber composite components against one another, at least in the joining zone, the pressurization arrangement being flexible, at least in some section or sections. A welding device is configured for welding the fiber composite components in the joining zone during pressurization. The pressurization arrangement and welding device are configured to weld the thermoplastic fiber composite components in a pressurized state in the joining zone. The pressurization arrangement is configured to maintain pressurization independently of the welding device until the joining zone solidifies. A cover is also disclosed for a pressurization device for thermally joining thermoplastic fiber composite components.

Abstract: A method for producing a multi-jet nozzle body from a nozzle body blank produced by an injection molding or an additive manufacturing process, and a multi-jet nozzle body. The nozzle body blank defines a fluid chamber and is provided with at least two nozzle geometries having respective axes arranged to extend in a discharge direction and to intersect at a point of intersection outside of the nozzle geometries. The method includes processing, via laser processing, the nozzle body blank to form at least one of: an inflow arranged between one of the at least two nozzle geometries and the fluid chamber; or a funnel arranged between one of the at least two nozzle geometries and the inflow, thereby producing the multi-jet nozzle body.

Abstract: A vehicle wheel and method of manufacturing the vehicle wheel is disclosed. A first polymeric coating is applied to a surface of an alloy substrate that defines the vehicle wheel. The first polymeric coating defines a first coloration. An intermediate clear polymeric coating is applied over the first polymeric coating. A second polymeric coating is applied over the first polymeric coating with the second polymeric coating defining a second coloration that is distinguishable from the first coloration. A laser scans a pattern over the second polymeric coating resulting in ablation of the second polymeric coating rendering the first polymeric coating visible through the intermediate clear polymeric coating defining a pattern of exposed first polymeric coating. Thus, a two-tone appears is present between the first coloration and the second coloration in the shape of the pattern scanned by the laser.

Abstract: Inflatable devices are disclosed including a surface which has a network of polymer chains and is configured to be inflatable into a therapeutically or diagnostically useful shape, and at least one ultrashort laser pulse-formed modification in the surface. The network can, for example, include a network morphology that is substantially unchanged by modification with the ultrashort pulse laser. Ultrashort laser pulses can be laser pulses equal to or less than 1000 picoseconds in duration. Advantageously, the etching process uses a relatively low-heat laser to avoid significant heating of surrounding polymers while modifying the surface (and other structures) of the device. The process is configured so that the polymer chain morphology adjacent the modification is substantially unaffected by the low-heat laser. The resulting inflatable device has customized surface features while still retaining substantially homogenous polymer network morphology. This preserves the elasticity, especially the surface elasticity, of the inflatable device.
