摘要: A method is provided for monitoring catalyst efficiency in a catalytic converter of a motor vehicle, comprising the steps of: (a) detecting an oxygen level of an exhaust gas from the vehicle's engine by using an oxygen sensor positioned at the outlet of the catalytic converter; (b) terminating fuel flow to the vehicle's engine; (c) detecting a change in the oxygen level in response to terminating fuel flow; (d) determining a time period from termination of fuel flow to detection of the change in oxygen level; and then (e) compensating this time period with respect to an exhaust flowrate, such that the compensated time period is indicative of catalyst efficiency of the catalytic converter. More specifically, the exhaust flowrate is determined from a manifold absolute pressure and an engine rotational speed of the engine. To achieve reliable and consistent results, catalyst monitoring of the present invention is only enabled under preferred vehicle operating conditions. In addition, catalyst monitoring may also determine a second measurement of the catalyst by determining a similar time period for catalyst response once the fuel flow returns to the engine.

摘要: A communication system includes a miniaturized palmtop computer which is information-coupled to a programmable node positioned in an instrument panel of a vehicle. The computer is removably resident in a pod or pocket of the instrument panel and communicates with a node either wirelessly or via a connectorized bus. Redundant radio and HVAC displays form at least one surface of the pod for use by vehicle operators not using the computer option.

摘要: A body side sill molding attachment for a motor vehicle includes a main body portion, first flange and a second flange. The first flange upwardly extends and includes a plurality of ribs adapted to frictionally engage an inboard side of a downwardly extending flange of a motor vehicle sill. The second flange longitudinally extends along an upper edge of the main body portion and includes a plurality of apertures adapted to align with a corresponding plurality of slots provided in the motor vehicle sill. Each of the apertures and associated slots are adapted to align and receive a mechanical fastener for securing an upper edge of the body side sill molding attachment to the vehicle. A preferred method of attaching the body side sill molding attachment to the motor vehicle includes the general step of engaging the ribs of the first flange with the rear side of the downwardly extending sill flange, rotating the body side sill molding attachment about a longitudinally extending axis, abutting the second flange with the motor vehicle sill, and securing the second flange to the motor vehicle sill.

摘要: A remote mirror adjustment mechanism for manually adjusting the position of a vehicle side rear-view mirror wherein the adjustment mechanism has a base member having an annular edge for engaging and mounting the adjustment mechanism to a substantially flat interior panel of the vehicle and forming a recessed space in the panel. The base member includes a concave socket for rotatably receiving a ball socket there against. An elongated arm member is mounted to the ball socket and biased from an actuation position with the arm member extending outwardly from the recessed space and beyond the annular edge to a rest position retracted in the recessed space and below the annular edge. A plurality of cables interconnect the ball socket and the side rear-view mirror to provide angular adjustment of the mirror when the arm member rotates the ball socket in the actuation position. A housing defining a cavity encloses the ball socket against the concave socket of the base member. The arm member is biased to the rest position to prevent accidental miss-adjustment of the side rear-view mirror by the vehicle operator.

摘要: An automatic transmission shift indicator system is provided to electrically indicate the selected gear of an automatic transmission in a motor vehicle. The shift indicator system includes a gear selector, transmission locking plate, a switch and a visual shift indicator. The gear selector connects to a locking plate in the transmission and is manually operative by the vehicle's driver to rotate the locking plate within a range of positions that correlate to each of the selectable transmission gears. The park neutral safety switch is modified to movably engage a stepped cam surface of the locking plate, so that each step corresponds to one of the selectable transmission gears. As the gear selector is shifted from gear to gear, the switch is actuated and thus transmits an electrical signal that is indicative of a selected transmission gear. The visual shift indicator decodes the selected transmission gear based on the resistance value of the electrical signal and displays the selected gear to the driver.

摘要: A folding seat assembly is provided for a vehicle including a seat back and a seat bottom pivotally mounted relative to the seat back and movable between a seating position and a folded upright position. A detent mechanism provides a resistance to movement of the seat bottom from the folded upright position and the seating position. An inertia latch mechanism is provided for engaging the seat bottom in the folded upright position in response to a rapid deceleration of the vehicle such as caused by a collision.
