A plurality of signal coupling circuits are coupled to the signal delaying circuit for developing a plurality of delayed video signals. At least a first and a second of the delayed video signals, spaced apart in time by a time interval substantially equal to NT/2, where T is the period of a signal component of the video signals and N is an integer greater than one, are combined to form a combined signal. A bandwidth determining signal is derived from at least a third of the delayed video signals spaced in time between the first and second delayed video signals. A peak response determining signal is derived by further combining the combined signal and the bandwidth determining signal. The amplitude of the peak response determining signal is controlled as a function of a control signal. In illustrative embodiments the apparatus is utilized to provide automatic luminance channel peaking and automatic color or chroma control (ACC).

In the use of laser beams for alignment applications, such as surveying or range finding, the laser beam may be projected for a considerable distance through an ambient medium having a variation in its index of refraction. This will cause the laser beam to deviate from the desired straight line of reference during the surveying operation. The invention utilizes a laser beam having two or more beam components of different frequencies, respectively. If the laser beam deviates from the straight line of reference, the deviation of the beam components will be different and the spacing between the beam components at a distant point can be measured. From this spacing of the beam components, the correct straight line of reference can be determined and fixed relative to the position of one or more of the beam components.

Circuit means are provided for reducing the noise signals amongst regularly recurring horizontal synchronization timing signals extracted from composite video signals recorded on a video disc and for blanking these timing signals during the regularly recurring vertical synchronization intervals when undesired equalizing and serrated pulses are present. The circuit means incorporates integrating means for discriminating predetermined regularly recurring timing signals from signals including noise pulses.
