The clutch means (16-18, 25; 58, 60, 67) comprises a shift means (31; 84, 85) by which the mode of operation of the clutch means (16-18, 25; 58, 60, 67) is shiftable between a torque responsive releasing action during the first, high speed step of the tightening process and a non-releasing action during the second, low speed step of the tightening process, and a release detecting means (23; 83) associated with said clutch means (16-18, 25; 58, 60, 67) and arranged to act upon said power supply means to cause at least a substantial reduction in the power supply to the motor as said clutch means (16-18, 25; 58, 60, 67) is released during the first, high speed step of the tightening process.

    摘要: A driver with automatic speed and torque switching including two different drive trains which operate in parallel and are driven at the same time by a motor. One drive train provides a high-speed output while the other provides a low-speed output. A single drive head for transmitting torque to the nut is normally coupled to the high-speed output, and not to the low-speed output. The machine operates initially at the high speed for the "free rotation" of the nut. When the nut contacts the surface of the structural body, the drive coupling to the high-speed output is disabled, and the low-speed output (which formerly was not coupled to the drive head) is not at the same time coupled to the drive head. The nut is then driven much more slowly but with a higher driving torque. Within the low-speed drive train there is included a friction clutch, and adjustment means for adjusting the level of torque at which it will slip. This clutch is therefore set for the predetermined counter-torque that is to cause driving rotation to be terminated.

    摘要: A two-speed power tool having a rotation motor supported in a housing (10) and driving an output spindle via three planetary reduction gears (13, 25, 22). The ring gear (17) of a first planetary gear (13) is rotatable relative to the housing (10) as well as axially displaceable between a high speed position and a low speed position. A friction coupling (37) is associated with the housing (10) and the ring gear (17) of the first planetary gear (13) to lock the latter against rotation either relative to the planet wheel carrier (16) of the first planetary gear (13) when occupying its high speed position or relative to the housing (10) when occupying its low speed position. The ring gear (22) of a second planetary gear (19) which is located after the first planetary gear (13) is rotatable relative to the housing (10) and cooperates with a cam (40, 41) to shift the first planetary gear ring gear (17) against the action of a spring (32) from the high speed position to a low speed position as a certain reaction torque threshold level in the second planetary gear ring gear (22) is exceeded. The cam (40, 41) also provides a torque responsive release function which comes into operation at a reaction torque level corresponding to the desired maximum output torque of the tool.

The switching or change-over means comprises a radially acting coupling which includes a dogging plate (4) mounted on the input shaft (2), a dogging cage (8, 9) mounted on the output shaft (3), and coupling elements (23) which are active between the two dogging elements and which are arranged for movement between an inner position, corresponding to direct drive, and an outer position, corresponding to a gearing-down drive, when the outward shaft (3) is driven via a planetary gear system (7; 31, 32, 33; 34) which acts upon the coupling elements (8, 9). The coupling elements (23) are spring-biased (10, 11, 12) with a force which must be exceeded in order for a change-over to take place.

    摘要: A nut runner adapted to run a threaded fastener into engagement with a workpiece, and then to tighten it to a final torque, determined by the angle through which the fastener is rotated. The nut runner comprises a reversible motor driving a driving shaft section. During rotation of the driving shaft section in a forward direction, it is directly connected through first releasable locking means with a driven shaft section driving the tool. When an initial torque is reached, the motor is reversed and the first releasable locking means released. Drive to the driven shaft section is continued via sun-and-planet gearing, the tubular sun gear of which carries an adjustable stop which engages with a stationary stop after predetermined angular displacement to thereby terminate the process.

In some aspects of the application, fastener tightness is monitored by a control system, and remedial actions are taken when a change in fastener tightness indicates damage or another adverse condition of the fastener or a material in which it is embedded. In other aspects, fastener seating is monitored by a control system, and remedial actions are taken when a change in fastener seating indicates damage or another adverse condition of the fastener or a material in which it is embedded. In some additional aspects, an actuator is located on board a fastener, and remedial actions are applied at the fastener, which may be in a remote location from the control system.
