    摘要: The present invention relates to advancements in injection molding and in particular to a method and apparatus for co-injection molding articles of complex non symmetrical geometry. The method forms a multilayer injection molded article comprising an outer skin of a first material and a central core of a second material which is encapsulated by the outer skin. The first and second materials are injected in a single stream into a cavity of an injection mold, with the second material encased within the first material. The flow of the stream is controlled by means of flow paths within the mold cavity such that both the first and second materials are present in at least one first area of the mold cavity and that only the first material is present in at least one second area of the mold cavity. The flow paths include at least one primary flow path in the first mold cavity area which divides into at least two secondary flow paths. The resistance of a first of the secondary flow paths in the at least one first mold cavity area is reduced relative to that of a second of the two secondary flow paths, which is in the at least the second mold cavity area.

    摘要: Disclosed herein are methods and systems for the preparation of a co-injection molded multilayer plastic article. Some methods include co-extruding a combined polymeric stream having an interior core stream encased by an inner stream and an outer stream. One or more pulses in a thickness of the interior core stream create portions of an edge of the outer flow stream flowing along different streamlines. A first portion of an outer edge of the interior core stream flows beyond a second portion of the outer edge thereby forming one or more cohesion members that physically interlock the interior layer with the inner layer, with the outer layer or with both. Some embodiments reduce or eliminate a need for addition of an adhesive in the composite stream to prevent delamination of layers of the resulting multilayer plastic article. In some embodiments, cohesion members may be employed to produce a desired cosmetic effect in a resulting article.

    摘要: An apparatus and method for injection molding includes a first melt passage for the flow of a first material, and a second melt passage in communication with the first melt passage for the flow of a second material. The apparatus and method for injection molding also includes a valve pin that passes through the second melt passage. The valve pin has a first portion allowing the flow of the second material, but not the first material, through the second melt passage, and a second portion restricting the flow of the first material and the second material through the second melt passage. The valve pin may also be used to restrict material flow from a melt channel into a cavity. In addition, a back-flow control valve may be combined with a melt passage of the apparatus and method for injection molding. The back-flow control valve has a first portion for permitting flow of material through the melt passage, and a second portion for restricting flow of material through the melt passage.

    摘要: Multi-cavity injection molding apparatus to coinject pressurized melt from two or more melt sources. An inner melt passage extends through the central bore of a melt distribution plate and an adjacent heated nozzle. The nozzle has a tapered nose portion which extends into an adjacent heated cavity forming insert having a gate leading to one of the cavities. An outer melt passage is separated by curved conduits on opposite faces of the melt distribution plate into four channels which are radially spaced around the central bore of the nozzle. The four channels lead to a melt funnel duct which extends in the adjacent cavity forming insert around the nose portion of the nozzle. Thus the melt from the outer melt passage is evenly distributed around the melt from the inner melt passage when they join just before entering the gate.
