    摘要: An improved feed screw for injection molding machines has a metering section adjacent to the outlet having primary flights formed by a helical thread. The primary flights form primary channels therebetween for passage of the material. The primary channels are intersected by mixing flights formed by another helical thread having a hook shaped starting point extending from a main flight at the start of the metering section that continues in a general alignment with the primary flights. The mixing flights divide the primary channel into two secondary channels. The mixing flights include alternating oriented angular notches cut therethrough to provide passageway for the material between the two secondary channels to move in a general serpentine path.

The profile (40) of each front pushing face (36) acts with the inner surface (24) of the barrel (18) to form a progressively narrowing passage (46) through which material is forced into multiple regions of high elongational and shear stress (48) which act to break down agglomerates of material and thus dispersively mix the material.Also presented is a screw extruder (100) having a single screw (28) which includes dispersion disks (102) which are rotationally offset from one another and whose design is not constrained by interaction with a second disk, which provides improved distributive and dispersive mixing.Also presented is a method of extruding material using a screw extruder (10) having pushing face (36) profiles (40) which form progressively narrowing passages (46) in conjunction with the barrel (18) inner surfaces (24) to provide improved dispersive mixing.

    摘要: A plastic materials screw has a metering section defined by a series of axially extending discontinuous and partially overlapping flightings. The flightings overlap each other by about a half to one turn to define overlapping portions whereby the flow in the primary channel is divided into a pair of secondary flow channels which have velocity profiles normal to the channel root greater than that in the primary channel. At the end of the overlapped portion, the first flighting is discontinued and the second flighting continues with a result that the flows are recombined in a distributive manner to provide improved mixing with a minimum of additional shear stress.

    摘要: This invention relates to a rotary kneading screw installed in an extruder kneading and extrusion-molding a material mixture of a synthetic resin such as polyester resin mixed with one or more of master-batch, calcium carbonate, talc and carbon fiber. Progressively higher pressures are applied to the material mixture passing through a kneading section defined in the rotary screw. This rotary kneading screw is thus capable of kneading and extruding the material mixture in a large amount without deteriorating its physical properties and without lowering fluidity and molecular weight thereof even where the material mixture is difficult to knead.

    摘要: In a single screw extruder particularly adapted for extrusion of foamed or foamable thermoplastic material by direct injection of gas or volatilizable liquid into the molten feed in the extruder, an improved means for mixing the gaseous or volatilizable liquid blowing agent with the molten feed in the extruder comprises a flow barrier between two adjacent flights of the worm screw and a gap in the foremost one of said adjacent screw flights, such that substantially the total polymer mass being forwarded by the screw is forced through the gap and the flow channel section behind the flow barrier remains substantially free of polymer over about one complete revolution of the screw, the blowing agent being injected into a space which is substantially free of polymer mass from a conduit inside the root of the screw through at least one opening between said adjacent flights and near that gap. This provides a relatively large area of contact between the blowing agent and polymer, conducive to fast and uniform diffusion of the blowing agent into the polymer.The same construction is also adaptable to devolatilizing of a polymer mass containing some volatilizable fluid material.

    摘要: An extruder has a housing formed with an axial passage and a relatively large-diameter central screw in the passage. A plurality of small-diameter outer screws angularly spaced within the passage about the central screw mesh therewith. The outer screws form outer flow passages of substantially smaller volume and the screw thread of the central screw forms central flow passages of larger volume than where these screws had geometrically complementary threads. The central screw and the outer screws are rotated in opposite senses at the same peripheral speed. In this manner the synthetic-resin material plasticized in the extruder exits from the extruder at the same temperature both in the region of the outer screws and the central screw. The axial length of the screw threads can be different, the gap between their flanks can be different, or the radial gap between their crowns and roots can be different so as to effect this difference in volume.
