摘要: A multiple-port optical device uses improved fiber ferrules comprising various capillary designs and shapes to precisely position optical fibers and, in particular, the optical fiber cores. The fibers are screened for geometric characteristics which further aide in precisely positioning the fiber cores. The ferrules, capillaries, fibers, and adhesives are combined to reduce adverse thermal effects and maintain the position of the fibers over a broad range of environmental conditions in which DWDM packages and modules are required to operate.

摘要: The present invention relates to an integrated optical fiber collimator with a built-in polarizing beam splitter. An embodiment of the present invention includes a housing, an optical fiber, a collimating lens system that includes at least one lens, and a polarizing beam splitter. The optical fiber terminates in the housing at an optical fiber termination. The collimating lens system is in the housing and is in optically communication with the optical fiber through the optical fiber termination. The housing mechanically supports the polarizing beam splitter. The polarizing beam splitter separates the light from the optical fiber into two substantially orthogonally polarized light beams and substantially couples two orthogonally polarized light beams to the optical fiber in conjunction with the collimating lens system.

摘要: The present invention relates to an optical module that employs an integrated optical fiber collimator with a built-in polarizing beam splitter. According to an embodiment of the present invention, the integrated optical fiber collimator includes a collimator housing, an optical fiber, a collimating lens system that includes at least one lens, and a polarizing beam splitter. The optical fiber terminates in the collimator housing at an optical fiber termination. The collimating lens system is in the collimator housing and is in optically communication with the optical fiber through the optical fiber termination. The collimator housing mechanically supports the polarizing beam splitter. The polarizing beam splitter separates the light from the optical fiber into two substantially orthogonally polarized light beams and substantially couples two orthogonally polarized light beams to the optical fiber in conjunction with the collimating lens system.

摘要: An optical module for optically coupling an input side and an output side with each other through an optically functional portion inserted between the input side and the output side. At least one of the input side and the output side includes a plurality of collimators. At least one of the collimators is made different from the other collimators in at least one of the distance between the focal point of a corresponding lens and a corresponding light exit or incident surface, the numerical aperture of the light exit or incident surface, the effective focal length of the lens, the wavelength used and the distance between optical axes of adjacent ones of the collimators so that the size and position of a beam waist on an input side are made substantially coincident with those on an output side. In the case of a fiber collimator 14 constituted by a combination of a lens 12 and an optical fiber 10, an end surface of the optical fiber serves as a light exit or incident surface and the mode field diameter of the optical fiber also serves as one of variable characteristic parameters.

摘要: An automatic device for assembling a fiber collimator. The fiber collimator includes a transparent tubular holder, an optical fiber having a first end surface disposed at an end of the tubular holder, and a GRIN lens having a second end surface disposed at the other end of the tubular holder. The automatic device includes an image pick-up device, a processor, a first driving table for rotating and moving the optical fiber, and a second driving table for rotating and moving the GRIN lens. The image pick-up device films the first and second end surfaces, and outputs image data corresponding to the first and second end surfaces. The processor receives and processes the image data to control the first and second driving table to rotate so that the first and second end surfaces are parallel to each other, and control the first and second driving table to move so that a distance between the first and second end surfaces is equal to a predetermined value.
