摘要: A double flexible optical circuit includes: a flexible substrate supporting a plurality of optical fibers; a first connector terminating the optical fibers at a first end of the double flexible optical circuit; and a second connector terminating the optical fibers at a second end of the double flexible optical circuit. Each of the optical fibers is positioned in one of a plurality of separate extensions formed by the flexible substrate as the optical fibers extend from the first connector to the second connector. The first and second connectors are configured to be tested when the first and second connectors are connected through the double flexible optical circuit. The double flexible optical circuit is configured to be divided in half once the testing is complete to form two separate flexible optical circuits.

摘要: Methods of assembling polarization-maintaining (PM) optical fiber assemblies includes inserting optical fibers through channels of a receptacle with ends of extending past a front face of the receptacle. The first ends are radiated causing the initial fiber diameter to expand and results in an enlarged fiber diameter and forms an enlarged portion for a desired length along the PM optical fibers. The birefringent elements of the optical fibers are aligned to present a desired orientation and the optical fibers are further retracted until the enlarged portions abut the corresponding channels to mechanically lock the orientation of the optical fibers. The optical fiber assembly is further finished to maintain the polarity from the first end to a second end.

摘要: An optical ferrule assembly includes an optical ferrule including an attachment area, a light input surface and a light output surface; an optical fiber having a fiber end where the light input surface and the fiber end defines a gap therebetween substantially filled with an adhesive, such that light propagating along the optical fiber and having a peak intensity I1≥3 GW/m2, exits the fiber end and enters the optical ferrule through the light input surface after traversing the gap through the adhesive, and exits the optical ferrule through the light output surface. The exiting light has a first beam size, such that after at least 100 hours of aging of the optical ferrule assembly, any change in the first beam size due to a photodegradation of the adhesive is no more than about 10%. The adhesive can be prepared by photocuring an optical adhesive formulation.

摘要: Assemblies, optical connectors, and methods for forming fiber arrays using laser bonded optical fibers are disclosed. In one embodiment, a method of forming a fiber array includes placing an optical fiber on a surface of a substrate, directing a laser beam into the optical fiber disposed on the surface of the substrate, melting, using the laser beam, a material of the substrate to create a first laser bond zone between the optical fiber and the surface of the substrate, applying an adhesive to the optical fiber and the substrate to create an adhesive bond zone between the optical fiber and the surface of the substrate, and cutting the optical fiber and the substrate to create a first section of the fiber array and a second section of the fiber array. The first section of the fiber array includes a first portion of the optical fiber, a first portion of the substrate, a first portion of the adhesive bond zone, and the first laser bond zone, and the second section of the fiber array includes a second portion of the optical fiber, a second portion of the substrate, and a second portion of the adhesive bond zone.
