摘要: A fiber optic ferrule includes a body extending from a first end to a second opposite end, with the body including an axial passage extending between the first and second ends. The axial passage includes a first diameter portion having a diameter of at least 125 microns, and a second diameter portion having a diameter of at least 250 microns and less than a diameter of the buffer, the second diameter portion positioned between the first diameter and the second end. The axial passage further defines a tapered shape at the second end extending inward from the second end to the second diameter portion. A hub holds the ferrule. A method of assembling a terminated fiber optic cable is also provided.

摘要: In an optical connector ferrule, a side surface of the front end portion is connected to a front end surface of the front end portion and extends in a direction intersecting the front end surface. The flange portion is connected to the front end portion on an opposite side of the front end surface. The flange portion protrudes from the front end portion in a direction along the front end surface. An optical fiber hole opens in the front end surface and extends in an intersecting direction intersecting the front end surface. The window opens in the side surface. A shortest distance between a connection position where the flange portion and the front end portion are connected to each other and a portion which is closest to the front end surface in the edge is less than or equal to a width of the flange portion in the intersecting direction.

摘要: An optical connector includes a holding member to which a waveguide member is fixed. The waveguide member includes a first clad layer having a longitudinal direction and a first surface, a core layer provided on the first surface, a second clad layer provided on the first surface and covering the core layer, and first and second contact layers provided on the first surface, sandwiching the core layer in a cross sectional view perpendicular to the longitudinal direction and exposed from the second clad layer. The first contact layer includes a second surface making contact with the first surface, and a third surface opposite to the second surface, and the second contact layer includes a fourth surface making contact with the first surface, and a fifth surface opposite to the second surface. The first clad layer includes sixth and seventh surfaces forming obtuse angles with the first surface.

摘要: Methods of assembling polarization-maintaining (PM) optical fiber assemblies includes inserting optical fibers through channels of a receptacle with ends of extending past a front face of the receptacle. The first ends are radiated causing the initial fiber diameter to expand and results in an enlarged fiber diameter and forms an enlarged portion for a desired length along the PM optical fibers. The birefringent elements of the optical fibers are aligned to present a desired orientation and the optical fibers are further retracted until the enlarged portions abut the corresponding channels to mechanically lock the orientation of the optical fibers. The optical fiber assembly is further finished to maintain the polarity from the first end to a second end.

摘要: Assemblies, optical connectors, and methods for forming fiber arrays using laser bonded optical fibers are disclosed. In one embodiment, a method of forming a fiber array includes placing an optical fiber on a surface of a substrate, directing a laser beam into the optical fiber disposed on the surface of the substrate, melting, using the laser beam, a material of the substrate to create a first laser bond zone between the optical fiber and the surface of the substrate, applying an adhesive to the optical fiber and the substrate to create an adhesive bond zone between the optical fiber and the surface of the substrate, and cutting the optical fiber and the substrate to create a first section of the fiber array and a second section of the fiber array. The first section of the fiber array includes a first portion of the optical fiber, a first portion of the substrate, a first portion of the adhesive bond zone, and the first laser bond zone, and the second section of the fiber array includes a second portion of the optical fiber, a second portion of the substrate, and a second portion of the adhesive bond zone.

摘要: A fiber optic ferrule includes a body extending from a first end to a second opposite end, with the body including an axial passage extending between the first and the second ends. The axial passage includes a first diameter portion having a diameter of at least 125 microns, a second diameter portion having a diameter of at least 250 microns and less than a diameter of a buffer, and a smooth and continuous transition between the first and the second diameter portions. The second diameter portion is positioned between the first diameter portion and the second end. The axial passage further defines a tapered shape at the second end extending inward from the second end toward the second diameter portion. In certain embodiments, another smooth and continuous transition can be provided between the taper shape and the second diameter portion. In certain embodiments, the axial passage is smooth and continuous between the first and the second ends of the body. A hub holds the ferrule. A method of assembling a terminated fiber optic cable is also provided.
