摘要:
A family of ophthalmic lenses for correcting presbyopia meets constraints for distance vision, near vision, and disparity and may be designed according to a process that incorporates a merit function accounting for binocular visual performance.

In one aspect, the present invention provides an ophthalmic lens (e.g., an IOL) that includes an optic having an anterior surface and a posterior surface disposed about an optical axis. At least one of the surfaces (e.g., the anterior surface) has a profile characterized by superposition of a base profile and an auxiliary profile. The auxiliary profile can include an inner region, an outer region and a transition region between the inner and the outer regions, where an optical path difference across the transition region (i.e., the optical path difference between the inner and the outer radial boundaries of the transition region) corresponds to a non-integer fraction (e.g., ½) of a design wavelength (e.g., a wavelength of about 550 nm).

Methods for slowing progression of myopia or hyperopia of human patients include a step of providing contact lenses. The contact lenses have two or more refractive powers. A first refractive power provides clear visual acuity and a second refractive power provides a defocused retinal image to the human patient. The methods involve providing first and second sets of the contact lenses, the contact lenses of the second set have a different optical design than the contact lenses of the first set. With the present methods, an eye care practitioner is able to select one or more contact lenses from the second set of contact lenses based on one or more ocular parameters of the patient, one or more responses of the patient to the contact lens of the first set, or both, to provide an improved clinical benefit to the patient compared to the benefit provided by the first set of contact lenses.

Aspheric optical lenses (e.g., intraocular lenses and contact lenses) are provided. The intraocular lens includes a body portion defining an anterior optical surface and an opposing posterior optical surface. The anterior optical surface includes a central region surrounded by a first outer region and a second outer region. The central region has a first asphericity profile. The first outer region has a second asphericity profile that is different than the first asphericity profile of the central region. The second outer region has a third asphericity profile that is different than the second asphericity profile of the first outer region. The overall asphericity profile of the optical lens provides different depths of focus for different pupil sizes. The result is an optical lens that provides increased depth of focus or pseudo-accommodation while maintaining desired optical power and performance.

Devices, systems, and methods for treating and/or determining appropriate prescriptions for one or both eyes of a patient are particularly well-suited for addressing presbyopia, often in combination with concurrent treatments of other vision defects. High-order spherical aberration may be imposed in one or both of a patient's eyes, often as a controlled amount of negative spherical aberration extending across a pupil. A desired presbyopia-mitigating quantity of high-order spherical aberration may be defined by one or more spherical Zernike coefficients, which may be combined with Zernike coefficients generated from a wavefront aberrometer. The resulting prescription can be imposed using refractive surgical techniques such as laser eye surgery, using intraocular lenses and other implanted structures, using contact lenses, using temporary or permanent corneal reshaping techniques, and/or the like.

A contact lens for placing over the eye is described. The lens has at least one non-spherical shape surface configured with bi-sign profile to maintain lens optical advantage as compared with equivalent far power spherical lens within common clinical condition of lens movement over the cornea of the eye.

A method of designing a multifocal ophthalmic lens with one base focus and at least one additional focus, capable of reducing aberrations of the eye for at least one of the foci after its implantation, comprising the steps of: (i) characterizing at least one corneal surface as a mathematical model; (ii) calculating the resulting aberrations of said corneal surface(s) by employing said mathematical model; (iii) modelling the multifocal ophthalmic lens such that a wavefront arriving from an optical system comprising said lens and said at least one corneal surface obtains reduced aberrations for at least one of the foci. There is also disclosed a method of selecting a multifocal intraocular lens, a method of designing a multifocal ophthalmic lens based on corneal data from a group of patients, and a multifocal ophthalmic lens.

An ophthalmic lens for providing a plurality of foci includes an optic having an anterior surface, a posterior surface, and an optical axis. The ophthalmic lens has a first region and a second region. The first region has a first refractive optical power and includes a first base curvature having a finite radius of curvature and a first phase plate having at least one diffraction order with a diffractive optical power. The first region is configured for forming a first focus and a second focus. The second region has a second refractive optical power and includes a second base curvature having a finite second radius of curvature that is different from the first radius of curvature and a second phase plate having at least one diffraction order with a diffractive optical power. The second region is configured for forming a third focus that is between the first focus and the second focus. The ophthalmic lens may be configured so the first focus provides distant vision, the second focus provides near vision, and the third focus provides intermediate vision.
