Abstract: The present disclosure is directed to lenses, devices, methods and/or systems for addressing refractive error. Certain embodiments are directed to changing or controlling the wavefront of the light entering a human eye. The lenses, devices, methods and/or systems can be used for correcting, addressing, mitigating or treating refractive errors and provide excellent vision at distances encompassing far to near without significant ghosting. The refractive error may for example arise from myopia, hyperopia, or presbyopia with or without astigmatism. Certain disclosed embodiments of lenses, devices and/or methods include embodiments that address foveal and/or peripheral vision. Exemplary of lenses in the fields of certain embodiments include contact lenses, corneal onlays, corneal inlays, and lenses for intraocular devices both anterior and posterior chamber, accommodating intraocular lenses, electro-active spectacle lenses and/or refractive surgery.

Abstract: A multi-piece IOL assembly is provided that includes a platform and an optic. The platform has an inner periphery surrounding an inner zone of the platform. The optic has an optical zone, an outer periphery and a retention mechanism disposed on the outer periphery. The optic is configured to be disposed in the inner zone of the platform and to extend to a location between the inner periphery and the outer periphery of the platform to be secured to the platform at the location. The platform can be secured to an inner periphery of the eye or can be formed into a natural lens by cutting the lens using a laser or other energy source.

Abstract: An ophthalmic lens for treating myopia comprising: a base lens with a front surface, a back surface, and a first power profile selected to correct or substantially correct for a distance refractive error of the eye; one or more myopia control elements on at least one of the front and back surfaces of the lens; a first viewing region having a dimension selected based, at least in part, on a concentration of a pharmaceutical agent for use in conjunction with an ophthalmic lens, the first viewing region being configured to minimize, reduce and/or eliminate vision disturbances for distance vision; and a second viewing region comprising a power profile that is relatively more positive compared to the first viewing region; wherein at least one of the size of the second viewing region and the relatively more positive power of the second viewing region is selected based, at least in part, on the concentration of the pharmaceutical agent.

Abstract: A lens for use in an intraocular lens system for treating age-related macular degeneration (AMD), the lens including an anterior surface, a posterior surface, and a plurality of haptics configured to align the anterior light-converging intraocular lens with an optical axis of the eye. The plurality of haptics may have a symmetrical design and comprising ciliary-sulcus-engaging surfaces configure to position the lens within in a ciliary sulcus of an eye. At least one of the anterior surface and the posterior surface may be rendered as aspherical surfaces selected to induce spherical aberration while minimizing optical aberration and thereby provide for a continuum of retinal images to be focused at an area macula of a retina of the eye between two retinal eccentricities.

Abstract: A lens for an eye having an optical axis and an aberration profile along its optical axis, the aberration profile having a focal distance and including higher order aberrations having at least one of a primary spherical aberration component and a secondary spherical aberration component. The aberration profile may provide, for a model eye with no aberrations and an on-axis length equal to the focal distance: a peak, first retinal image quality (RIQ) within a through focus range that remains at or above a second RIQ over the through focus range that includes said focal distance, where the first RIQ is at least 0.35, the second RIQ is at least 0.1 and the through focus range is at least 1.8 Diopters.

Abstract: A virtual aperture integrated into an intraocular lens is disclosed. Optical rays which intersect the virtual aperture are widely scattered across the retina causing the light to be virtually prevented from reaching detectable levels on the retina. The use of the virtual aperture helps remove monochromatic and chromatic aberrations yielding high-definition retinal images. For a given definition of acceptable vision, the depth of field is increased over a larger diameter optical zone. In addition, thinner intraocular lenses can be produced since the optical zone can have a smaller diameter. This in turn allows smaller corneal incisions and easier implantation surgery.

Abstract: Visual aids and associated methods for improving the eye sight of low vision patients are provided. Generally, the devices of the present disclosure address the needs of age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and other low vision patients by providing a magnified retinal image while keeping a large visual field of view. Further, the devices of the present disclosure allow direction of the magnified retinal image away from damaged portions of the retina and towards healthy, or at least healthier, portions of the retina. The devices of the present disclosure are also configured for implantation within the eye using minimally invasive surgical procedures. Methods of utilizing the devices of the present disclosure, including surgical procedures, are also provided.

Abstract: A method of performing laser surgery in a patient's eye includes generating a light beam, deflecting the light beam using a scanner to form an enclosed treatment pattern that is configured to form an enclosed capsulorhexis incision that includes a registration feature, and delivering the enclosed treatment pattern to target tissue in the patient's eye to form in an anterior lens capsule of the patient's eye the enclosed capsulorhexis incision that includes the registration feature. The registration feature is configured so that an edge of the target tissue formed by the enclosed capsulorhexis incision mates with an intraocular lens registration feature on an intraocular lens so as to rotationally register the intraocular lens relative to the registration feature.

Abstract: A system for treating a cataractous lens of a patient's eye includes a laser source for generating a light beam, a scanning system for deflecting the light beam to form a treatment pattern of the light beam, and a controller operably coupled to the laser source and scanning system and configured to operate the scanner to form the treatment pattern. The treatment pattern is a plurality of cuts in the form two or more different incision patterns for segmenting the lens tissue into a plurality of patterned pieces. The incision pattern includes: a first incision pattern including two or more crossing cut incision planes; and a second incision pattern comprising one or more laser incision each extending along a first length between a posterior and an anterior surface of the lens capsule.

Abstract: An intraocular lens comprises a lens body customized for astigmatism in a particular eye. For the customization to work, the astigmatism in the lens has to be aligned with astigmatism in the eye. Thus the intraocular lens comprises four protrusions arranged outwardly around the lens body to form the four corners of a substantially rectangular profile. The profile locks the intraocular lens into a position of rotational stability when inserted into a capsular bag, thus preventing rotation of the intraocular lens, which would otherwise tend to occur both immediately after insertion into the capsular bag and later on during growth, shrinkage or other change to the capsular bag. The Intraocular lens may additionally be customized for other eye conditions and a multi-focal embodiment is also disclosed.
