    摘要: A system to support a moving photoreceptor belt in an electrophotographic printing machine while minimizing lateral forces applied thereon. Pairs of idler rolls are located in contact with the inner surface of the belt in an arrangement in which the axes of rotation of the idlers are skewed in substantially equal but opposite angles from a direction perpendicular to the direction of belt motion. As the resultant lateral forces between the belt and rolls act in a direction nearly parallel to the axes of rotation of the idlers, the opposing skew essentially cancels the side force of each pair of idlers which promotes good belt tracking. As the idlers are freely rotating, drag and tensioning forces on the belt are also minimized.

    摘要: An apparatus for guiding a moving web, particularly in an electrophotographic printing machine of the type having an endless photoreceptor belt supported by a plurality of rolls and arranged to move in a predetermined path through a plurality of processing stations disposed therealong the web being of the type which is supported by a plurality of rolls. A roll for supporting the web and in frictional contact therewith is adapted for rotational movement about a first axis. A roll support in the form of a dead shaft allows the roll laterally move to pivot about a second axis in a direction substantially normal to the predetermined path direction. This is accomplished by supporting the dead shaft on a V-groove roller which rides in a track substantially along the arc of rotation normal to the predetermined path direction. Any web tracking normal to the predetermined direction exerts a friction force on the roll causing the roll to pivot about the second axis as a result of the v-groove rollers moving along the tracks in a direction substantially normal to the predetermined direction such that the roll aligns itself so that its axis of rotation is substantially perpendicular to the direction of travel of the belt.

    摘要: A control method and apparatus for tracking an endless belt. The tracking apparatus includes a roller and a belt steering roller. A span of the belt defined between the roller and the belt steering roller travels in a plane and both the roller and the belt steering roller are adapted for rotational movement about longitudinal axes perpendicular to the plane. The belt steering roller is also capable of a tilting movement through a midpoint of the belt steering roller in a soft tilt axis intersecting the longitudinal axis. A tilting mechanism including a solenoid and a spring controls movement of a yoke for tilting the steering roller about the soft tilt axis to either a positively tilted position relative to the plane or to a negatively tilted position relative to the plane. An optical sensor senses the lateral position of the belt and produces an electrical signal representing the lateral position. The electrical signal is analyzed and a first and a second time period are determined, these first and second time periods form a time duration ratio for keeping the steering roller at the negatively and positively tilted positions. A microprocessor control activates the tilting mechanism to move the steering roller to one of the two predetermined positions based on the electrical signal for the first time period. Subsequently, the tilting mechanism is activated to move to the other position after elapse of the first time period. The steering roller remains at the other position for the second time period.

Creep detecting means provided at one end of the creep adjusting roller is rotated by torque of a flat belt in contact with the creep detecting means. Biasing means for biasing the flat belt toward the creep detecting means and roller-end displacing means for converting the torque of the creep detecting means to displacement of the end of the creep adjusting roller toward a predetermined direction so that the flat belt is moved to the direction contrary to the creep caused by the biasing means are provided. When the flat belt creeps, the creep contrary to the original creep is caused by the roller-end displacing means, and thus the original creep is compensated. Consequently, stable running of the flat belt is obtained and clear pictures of the electrophotographic machine can be also obtained.

The mechanism for angularly adjusting the steering roller comprises a lever assembly, for example, coupled to the steering roller for rotating such roller about the steering axis. Lateral movement of the web relative to the steering roller is sensed. A member, associated with the lever assembly and responsive to the sensing of lateral web movement, moves the lever assembly to rotate said steering roller for angular adjustment about the steering axis an amount corresponding to sensed lateral movement of the web. The member is located so that lateral movement of the web with the steering roller upon the angular adjustment of the roller is not imparted to the member.

    摘要: A self tracking web drive is provided wherein the roller with the friction drive in the center decouples all but a very limited width portion of the belt from the roller. By doing this, the flanges on a second roller cause the belt creep direction to reverse relative to the central high friction drive and move in the opposite direction.Depending on the alignment of the roller axes, the belt will either walk slowly to one side, then to the other, or to walk to one side, retreat and gradually self-adjust to track close to the flange or just off it.In fact, a thin driving high-friction area on one roll reduces the contact width between roller and belt and thereby tricks the wide belt into acting as if the width to pulley spacing was 10:1 or greater and becoming self tracking.

    摘要: An image-transfer-type electrostatic recording apparatus in which an endless-belt-shaped latent-electrostatic-image-bearing recording medium is trained over a drive roller and a driven roller so as to be rotatable therearound. The rollers are supported by a frame member. The latent electrostatic images are developed to visible images during the rotation of the latent-electrostatic-image-bearing recording medium, and the developed visible images are then transferred to a recording sheet. A device corrects the skewing of the endless-belt-shaped recording medium by moving upwards or downwards one end portion of the driven roller. A recording sheet guide member guides the recording sheet to a predetermined image transfer section on the surface of the developed visible image bearing recording medium. The recording sheet guide member is substantially integral with the frame member and/or the driven roller, thereby guaranteeing appropriate contact of the recording sheet with the recording medium regardless of the movement of the driven roller for correcting the skewing of the endless-belt-shaped recording medium.
