摘要: An ink jet printer uses a planar thermoelastic bend actuator to eject ink from a nozzle chamber. The thermal actuator includes a lower planar surface constructed from a highly conductive material such as a semiconductor metal layer interconnected to an upper planar surface constructed from an electrically resistive material such as Indium Tin Oxide (ITO), such that, upon passing a current between the planar surfaces, the thermal actuator is caused to bend towards an ink ejection port so as to thereby cause ejection of ink from the ink ejection port. The actuator is attached to a substrate and further includes a stiff paddle portion which increases the degree of bending of the actuator near the point where it is attached to the substrate. The surfaces are further coated with a passivation material as required.

摘要: The present invention provides a method and device for the acoustic ejection of fluid droplets from fluid-containing reservoirs using focusing means having an F-number greater than approximately 2. The droplets are ejected toward designated sites on a substrate surface for deposition thereon. In one embodiment, the device is comprised of: a plurality of reservoirs each adapted to contain a fluid; an ejector comprising a means for generating acoustic radiation and a large F-numbered means for focusing the acoustic radiation at a focal point near the fluid surface in each of the reservoirs; and a means for positioning the ejector in acoustically coupled relationship to each of the reservoirs. The invention is useful in a number of contexts, particularly in the preparation of biomolecular arrays.

摘要: A curved print head is used for generating charged particles at a number of apertures and emitting those charged particles from the apertures to a cylindrical drum. The print head has a radius of curvature larger than the radius of curvature of the drum. The difference in the radius of curvature of the print head and the radius of curvature of the drum is limited by the variation in electric field strength deposited on the drum across the width of the print head.

摘要: The recording solution in a recording solution chamber is always pressurized. The shutter is closed when recording is not conducted to prevent the recording solution from flowing out and drying up. The shutter is opened by the shutter driving section in accordance with the image information during recording to open the extrusion opening. The recording solution is extruded from the extrusion opening by the pressurizing force. After the top end of the extruded recording solution is deposited to the opposed image support, the shutter driving section closes the shutter. This discontinues the recording solution flown so far continuously from the extrusion of opening to form a not-stringing recording droplet on the image support. Recording solutions having viscosity in a wide range can be used. The recording dots can be formed accurately with low energy, and high quality images with reduced blot of recording dots can be obtained at high speed.
