    摘要: A device for preventing unauthorized intentional uncoupling or accidental uncoupling of a trailer from a towing vehicle. The threaded shaft of the ball slides through an upper housing allowing the upper housing to contain the shoulder of the ball so that the ball and upper housing can be mounted to a tow bar by inserting the threaded shaft of the tow ball through the aperture in a tow bar and then screwing a flanged nut onto the threaded shaft. A lower housing is then placed around the flanged nut and bolted to the upper housing so that the tow bar and the flanged portion of the flanged nut are sandwiched between the upper and lower housings. There is a yoke which encircles the shank of the tow ball, the dimensions of which make it impossible for it to slide over the ball. There is a locking hat which is placed over the trailer tongue ball socket having legs extending vertically downward allowing it to be locked to the yoke. Once in locked position, the trailer hitch cannot be disengaged without first unlocking and removing the locking hat. The locking hat and yoke do not limit the inherent rotation of the socket about the ball.

    摘要: An improved safety chain arrangement for linking a towing vehicle connected with primary towing arrangement to a towed vehicle. The invention assures control of the towed vehicle in the event of failure of the primary towing arrangement. A safety chain of adequate length and strength to meet standard safety regulations has a hook, snap, or other retention means at each end, and passes through a post in the towed vehicle, with each end of the chain connected to the towing vehicle, such as by looping the chain ends through an aperture on the towing vehicle bumper and suitably securing each chain end. The post has a storage compartment for storage of excess links of chain, and is provided with two slotted keyholes for passage and secure retention of links of the safety chain.

    摘要: A bolt arrangement for securing safety chain is provided with end stanchions and an intermediate stanchion through which the bolt is slidably and rotatably mounted. The safety chain is trapped by the bolt between an end stanchion and the intermediate stanchion. The bolt is operated by a plurality of operators rotatably and slidably mounted thereto between the other end stanchion and the intermediate stanchion, and comprises a plurality of flat pieces, each shaped and drilled to be mounted about the bolt and positioned side by side between a set of snap rings. Only by partially rotating all the handles together can they be slid laterally between two guides parallel to the bolt to free the chain from the bolt.

A pair of safety links or arms extend fore and aft from each side of the tongue to the support where they are pivoted on each side of the hitch axis. The arms are longitudinally telescopic to extend and retract as the trailer moves about the hitch axis and the arm ends are connected on rigid vertical axes to the tongue and support to provide an effective traveling hitch connection should the main hitch connection be severed.

    摘要: A three-point tractor hitch system includes a coupling hook structure as the upper link thereof formed with a hook body defining a concave recess for receiving therein in locking engagement a coupling sphere. A locking bolt received within a rectilinear opening extends into the concave recess of the hook body with a curved locking surface adapted to engage the contour of the coupling sphere. The locking bolt is pivotally mounted at its opposite end to a control lever having a generally U-shaped recess formed therein to engage a bearing pin mounted on the hook body. The U-shaped recess has lateral sides arranged so that imaginary extensions thereof will intersect the axis of the locking bolt and bearing means are interposed between the control lever and the hook body on a side of the pivotal coupling of the locking bolt to the hook body opposite the side on which the U-shaped recess is formed. A bearing pin is located on the hook body to be engaged within the U-shaped recess of the control lever when the locking bolt extends into its locking position within the concave recess.

    摘要: A safety hitch for a trailer or the like which replaces the conventional safety chains of a trailer hitch. A conventional tongue member is adapted to be connected to a trailing vehicle and has a conventional connecting structure on one end thereof such as a hole for reception of a pin or other conventional structure such as that used for ordinary ball-type hitches. An abutment member is spaced upwardly from but is attached to the tongue member. A rigid safety member is pivotally attached to the tongue member through a lever mechanism and horizontally disposed pivotal points. The safety member extends under the abutment member and between the abutment member and the tongue member. The other end of the of the safety member is attached through a vertical pivot, which is located directly above the vertical pivot of the tongue member. Additionally, a horizontal pivot is disposed on the other end of the safety member adjacent the vertical pivot. The safety member and its associated structure does not interfere with the ordinary function of an ordinary trailer hitch apparatus, and it furthermore allows the pulling vehicle to maintain control of the trailing vehicle even if the primary and conventional hitch mechanism becomes unfastened. This structure prevents the tongue member from digging into the ground as is often the case when conventional safety chains are used.
