摘要: An optical connector has a ferrule for accommodating an optical fiber. The ferrule includes a glass capillary and a coating. The glass capillary is formed at the distal end portion of the ferrule and is inserted in a ceramic sleeve that performs optical connection. The glass cylinder has a first through hole at the central axis portion thereof to accommodate a bare optical fiber. The coating is made of a material having a higher hardness than that of the sleeve, and coats an entire outer circumferential surface of the glass capillary. A method of manufacturing an optical connector is also disclosed.

摘要: A glass bottle production line comprising a bottle mold which has a plurality of mold cavities arranged in a predetermined order for forming bottles from glass parisons and for transferring the bottles to a conveyor in a predetermined sequence corresponding to the predetermined order of the mold cavities. The conveyor has a hot end portion and a cold end portion for receiving bottles from the bottle mold at an elevated temperature at the hot end portion and conveying the bottles to the cold end portion. A hot bottle inspector located at a fixed inspection station along the conveyor at the hot end portion non-touchingly inspects the bottles as the bottles are conveyed past the inspection station by the conveyor. A mold transfer signal and bottle detection signal are processed to determine the mold cavity used to produce the bottle detected at the inspector's station.

摘要: In a method of and an apparatus for manufacturing a plurality of kinds of glass molding articles, a plurality of processing compartments are arranged in order of processing steps. The compartments have their functions which process glass materials to be molded which are accommodated respectively in a plurality of molds and which are different in processing condition from each other. The functions are different in property from each other. Each of the compartments is divided into a plurality of processing chambers having their functions which process the glass materials. The functions of the processing chambers of the compartment are identical in property with each other but different in condition from each other. The molds remain respectively in the processing chambers for a predetermined period of time. The molds are successively moved to their respective subsequent processing chambers to process the glass materials to form the glass molding articles.

摘要: A cooling system for neck ring molds in a glass molding machine having retractable parison-forming molds engageable with the neck rings employs air jets directed at exposed portions of the neck ring molds. The neck ring molds are configured to extend out of the bottom of the main parison mold and to engage with neck ring hangers. The neck ring molds are configured sufficiently long that a space is created between the bottoms of the main parison molds and the hangers to permit direct access to portions of the neck ring mold. Air supplied in the form of air jets from a pair of cooling air plenums is directed at the exposed portions of the neck ring molds to provide cooling.

摘要: A process for forming lamp capsules such as in the manufacture of miniature arc lamps wherein the bulb portion of the capsule is formed by blowing molten glass into a mold while simultaneously press sealing the lead assembly. The molding and sealing process is accomplished with heat application by means of a press foot assembly closed for a predetermined period of time such as one second to press seal the blank capsule against the lead assembly with one portion of the press foot assembly, and simultaneously to blow mold the blank capsule into another preformed portion of the press foot assembly to form the bulb portion of the lamp capsule.

摘要: A process and apparatus for the manufacture of large glass containers, comprises preparing a glass gob of a predetermined weight in an automatic mechanical feeder and feeding it to a first preparatory mold at a predetermined frequency. A parison is formed in the preparatory mold, at the same frequency, the parison comprising a finished mouth of the glass container to be formed. The parison is then transferred to a second, prefinishing mold, and, at the same frequency, a prefinished parison is formed. The prefinished parison is transferred to a third, finishing mold, and, at a frequency in a ratio of from 1:1 to 1:4 of the predetermined frequency, the finished glass container is formed. The expansion of the prefinished parison is controlled by the action of compressed air conveyed to the interior of the parison from its mouth.

摘要: The invention relates to a method for producing glass, in which an oxide ss is mixed with a reducing agent and a combination of compounds which provide a dopant, donor-acceptor ion pair. This ion pair is selected from the group consisting of trivalent thulium plus trivalent cerium, trivalent bismuth plus trivalent europium, or trivalent bismuth plus trivalent samarium. The resulting mixture is homogenized and heated to about 1100.degree. C. The hot melt is allowed to fall on a ceramic surface and pressed with a second ceramic surface to produce a glass disk. When borax, phosphate, and germanate glasses are used, the glass ingredient is dried overnight at 150.degree. C followed by addition of a quantity of dopant ions, then homogenized, heated, and a disk formed as above. The glass thus produced is capable of emitting monochromatic radiation in predetermined regions of the spectrum wherein the emitted radiation has an unexpectedly high intensity compared with radiation emitted by singly doped glass.

摘要: Apparatus for producing a glass parison comprises a spindle and a plunger mounted in the spindle for axial displacement. Mechanism is provided for axially displacing the plunger relative to the housing. A press mould has a cavity for carrying glass melt and is movable into a working position aligned with the plunger so that the plunger may enter the mould cavity. A recess is provided in the housing in communication with the mould cavity to receive excess glass melt displaced thereinto in response to positioning of the plunger within the mould cavity. The plunger functions as a valve to alternately block and establish access between a blowing air passage and the front end of the plunger to allow air to be blown against a glass parison being produced. Retaining ring segments which partly define the melt-receiving recess are pivotable between a first position retaining a parison in place, and a second position allowing removal of the parison.
