摘要: The present invention relates to a method of representing shape of an optical fiber sensor (12) having a central core (16) and a plurality of outer cores (14, 18, 20), each core comprising one or more sensing elements, the method comprising: (a) optically interrogating the cores (14, 16, 18, 20) of the fiber sensor (12) from an incident optical wave over a wavelength range centered on a resonance wavelength of the one or more sensing elements, wherein the wavelength range is associated with a detection limited to a minimum radius of curvature along the fiber sensor; (b) reconstructing the shape of the fiber sensor (12) involving processing of interferometric signals received from the optical interrogation of the cores (14, 16, 18, 20), including reconstructing the shape of at least one out-of-range section along the fiber sensor (12) which is a section having a radius of curvature lower than the minimum radius of curvature, wherein reconstructing the shape of the at least one out-of-range section includes calculating curvature of the fiber sensor (12) in the at least one out-of-range section from interferometric signals received from the interrogation of the central core (16) in the at least one out-of-range section; (c) displaying the shape of the fiber sensor (12) including the at least one out-of-range section. A system to carry out the method is also described.

摘要: A fiber includes M primary cores and N redundant cores, where M an integer is greater than two and N is an integer greater than one. Interferometric circuitry detects interferometric pattern data associated with the M primary cores and the N redundant cores when the optical fiber is placed into a sensing position. Data processing circuitry calculates a primary core fiber bend value for the M primary cores and a redundant core fiber bend value for the N redundant cores based on a predetermined geometry of the M primary cores and the N redundant cores in the fiber and detected interferometric pattern data associated with the M primary cores and the N redundant cores. The primary core fiber bend value and the redundant core fiber bend value are compared in a comparison. The detected data for the M primary cores is determined reliable or unreliable based on the comparison. A signal is generated in response to an unreliable determination.

摘要: An example system for in-situ inspection of a composite structure includes a surface-strain imaging apparatus and a controller. The surface-strain imaging apparatus is configured to image an area of an outer surface of the composite structure while a temperature of the composite structure warms to thermal equilibrium with a surrounding environment and a temperature gradient exists within the composite structure. The controller includes a processor and a memory, and is configured to detect, using data received from the surface-strain imaging apparatus, an out-of-plane displacement of the outer surface in the area caused by the temperature gradient. The controller is also configured to determine that the out-of-plane displacement satisfies a threshold condition and, based on determining that the out-of-plane displacement satisfies the threshold condition, flag the area of the outer surface for further inspection.

摘要: In order to detect inclination of a smokestack, a smokestack inclination detection device 100D comprises an information generation unit 13 and an inclination detection unit 15. The information generation unit 13 generates smokestack shape information on the basis of reflected laser light. The reflected laser light refers to light resulting from laser light illuminated on the smokestack and reflected by the smokestack. The smokestack shape information refers to information about the shape of the smokestack. The inclination detection section 15 detects the inclination of the smokestack on the basis of the smokestack shape information generated by the information generation unit 13.
