摘要:
A circuit breaker with a digital trip unit has a protection mode and a waveform capture mode of operation. In the protection mode, an equivalent sampling technique based upon pairs of samples spaced 90 electrical degrees apart with a pattern of delays between pairs is used to digitize the waveforms in the protected electrical system. Synchronous sampling is used in the waveform capture mode. The value of each sample is monitored in the waveform capture mode and a transfer is made back to the protection mode if a threshold value indicating an overcurrent condition is exceeded. The percentage total harmonic distortion, and per harmonic distortion for harmonics, up to and including the 27th are sequentially presented on a display on the front panel of the circuit breaker and can be transmitted along with the raw waveform data to a remote processor.

A method of selectively isolating faulty channels in a parallel electric power system having at least two controllable AC power sources includes the steps of producing a DC content signal representative of the magnitude of DC voltage in an AC output of one of the power sources and producing a differential current signal representative of differential DC current flowing in connected phases of the power sources. The DC content and differential current signals are combined to produce an error signal which is used to control the operation of the first power source, thereby reducing the magnitude of DC voltage in its output. When the error signal exceeds a predetermined threshold level, a trip signal can be produced and used to selectively isolate a failed channel in the power system. Following isolation of the channels, the differential current signal is disabled such that the error signal is only representative of the DC content signal for split channel operation.

Motor control systems having solid-state components are commonly used on industrial vehicles such as lift trucks. Such solid-state components are easily damaged by excessive transient voltages. The subject invention includes a power supply for supplying direct current to a motor circuit, wherein the direct current has a nominal direct current voltage value and as associated transient voltage component. A pulse control circuit supplies current pulses from the power supply to a motor. A sensing device controllably produces a fault signal in response to the amplitude and frequency of occurrence of the transient voltage component exceeding a predetermined maximum value. An override circuit receives the fault signal and responsively modifies the current pulses delivered from the power supply to the associated motor.

The DC content of an AC waveform is detected by a digital filter which partially filters each phase of the waveform and applies the filtered waveforms sequentially through a multiplexer to a sample and hold circuit which measures the instantaneous value of each phase at two points which are spaced an exact odd number of half cycles apart. The time interval between the measurement points is adjusted according to variations in the AC waveform frequency to maintain required spacing. The measured instantaneous values are fed by an analog to digital converter and to a microprocessor system which averages the two readings to generate a signal corresponding to the DC content for each phase.

A circuit for monitoring the voltage stress of a capacitor which produces an over-stress indicator signal responsive to the over-voltage history of the capacitor. If the measured voltage stress of the capacitor exceeds a predetermined over-voltage value, a characteristic-curve generator, having a predetermined transfer function, produces an output signal which is responsive to the measured voltage stress of the capacitor and the transfer function of the characteristic-curve generator. This signal is combined with a further signal which is responsive to a predetermined permissible continuous operation voltage value. The combined signals are conducted to an integrator having a predetermined integration time constant for producing an overload signal. The overload signal at the output of the integrator is a measure of the state of stress of the capacitor. Circuitry may be provided for disconnecting the capacitor from a transmission line in response to the output signal of the integrator. Also, plural capacitor voltage stress monitoring stages may be combined to monitor the capacitor voltage stress in a plurality of over-voltage ranges.
