Abstract: A method for treating a neurological disorder, symptom or disease that is associated with an increase in the brain levels of caveolin-1 (Cav-1) in a subject in need thereof is disclosed. The method comprises administering to the subject in need thereof a composition comprising: (a) a therapeutically effective amount of an antibody specific against the Cav-1 or an antigen-binding fragment thereof; and (b) a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier. Methods for reducing cerebral inflammation, brain tissue damage, brain neuronal death, and improving behavioral outcomes or functional recovery related to a hemorrhagic stroke in a subject in need thereof are also disclosed.

Abstract: Disclosed herein is a method of enhancing the accuracy and/or sensitivity of ultrasound imaging in detecting a tumor in a subject. The method comprises administering to the subject an effective amount of a nanoparticle prior to the application of ultrasound to the subject. According to certain embodiments of the present disclosure, the nanoparticle is a magnetic nanoparticle, for example, a gold, silver, or iron oxide nanoparticle. Also disclosed herein are methods of treating a tumor in a subject by detecting the tumor via ultrasound with the aid of a nanoparticle, and then administering to the subject an anti-cancer treatment based on the location of the tumor revealed by the ultrasound image.

Abstract: A system is provided to realize suppression by selecting wavelets for feature compression in distributed speech recognition. The system comprises a first device and a second device. The first device comprising: a first network module for connecting to a network; an acoustic transducer module for recording speech and outputting frames of recorded signal; and a first processor configured for the following: extracting multiple-dimensional speech features from the frames of the recorded signal to generate multiple feature sequences; applying discrete wavelet transform (DWT) to the feature sequences to obtain a plurality of component data; and transmitting at least one of the plurality of component data via the network, wherein another one of the plurality of component data is not transmitted. The second device comprising: a second network module for connecting to the network and receiving the at least one of the plurality of component data from the first device; and a second processor configured for the following: updating the received data to generate an updated data; and applying inverse discrete wavelet transform (IDWT) to the updated data to obtain reconstructed speech data.
