Abstract: A method of forming a semiconductor layer, which in one embodiment is part of a photodetector, includes forming a silicon shape, applying ozonated water, removing the first oxide layer at a temperature below 600 degrees Celsius, and epitaxially growing germanium. The silicon shape has a top surface that is exposed. The ozonated water is applied to the top surface and causes formation of a first oxide layer on the top surface. The germanium is grown on the top surface.

Abstract: A slide kit creation system and method allows reviewers of a slide kit to insert non-textual comments, such as audio comments, to be associated with selected slides. In one embodiment, audio comments are transmitted to a host computer by telephone, and may be posted on the host computer for access by other reviewers. The audio comments may also be transcribed in text form. In another embodiment, comments may be associated with various portions of a video, in the same manner. A video navigation bar is coded to indicate which portions of the video are associated with comments. Alternatively, certain attributes of the video can be altered to indicate the presence of comments associated with specific scenes of the video.

Abstract: Biocompatible liquid is pumped into a body cavity (eg. subarachnoid space, peritoneum, mediastinum, pleural space) by means of one pump and removed from it by means a second pump, preferably via a double-barreled catheter is used for insertion and removal of the liquid. An optional secondary catheter removes liquid from a distal area of the body cavity. Temperature and pressure are sensed within the cavity and can be controlled by adjusting liquid flow rates. While outside the body, the liquid can be ultraviolet-sterilized, foam fractionated to remove contaminants, oxygenated and pH balanced, cooled or warmed, and augmented with exogenous liquid that may contain drugs.

Abstract: A system for controlling the presence of a user perceived by contacts is provided. In particular, a rules engine receives a number of inputs related to the desired accessibility of the user, and from such inputs generates a perceived presence for the user that can be used to control how the user is notified of an incoming communication. Inputs may include an accessibility rating assigned to a contact, the physical presence of the user, the user selected desired accessibility level, and environmental factors. The system allows a user to limit distractions from unimportant contacts or while the user is engaged in other tasks, while allowing more important contacts to have immediate access to the user.

Abstract: A method for data stream identification includes receiving a data stream from a data source and executing a first transform on the data stream to determine if the data stream comprises a first characteristic associated with the first transform. The first transform is part of a transform tree comprising a plurality of transforms arranged in a hierarchy. The method includes executing one or more additional transforms to determine if the data stream comprises one or more additional characteristics associated with the one or more additional transforms and computing an efficiency level associated with the execution of each transform. The method also includes identifying a path through the transform tree wherein the computed efficiency level of each transform in the path is above a threshold value to determine characteristics of the data stream.

Abstract: The present invention is a method for providing multi-pathing via Small Computer System Interface Input/Output (SCSI I/O) referral between an initiator and a storage cluster which are communicatively coupled via a network, the storage cluster including at least a first target device and a second target device. The method includes receiving an input/output (I/O) at the first target device from the initiator via the network. The I/O includes a data request. The method further includes transmitting a SCSI I/O referral list to the initiator when data included in the data request is not stored on the first target device, but is stored on the second target device. The referral list includes first and second port identifiers for identifying first and second ports of the second target device respectively. The first and second ports of the target device are identified as access ports for accessing the data requested in the data request.
