A power-assisting device for use with a bicycle includes a hollow shaft which is adapted to be rotatably supported in a hanger lug of the bicycle. The hollow shaft is restricted to movement along a rotation center line thereof, and has (i) a first end portion adapted to be projected out of the hanger lug and detachably attached to a rear wheel drive gear, and (ii) a second end portion adapted to be projected out of the hanger lug and detachably attached to an input gear. A crank shaft is rotatably supported in a center hole of the hollow shaft. The crank shaft is restricted to movement along a rotation center line thereof, and has first and second end portions extending out of the hollow shaft and adapted to be detachably attached to a first and second ones of a pair of pedal-equipped crank arms. A power-assisting unit is adapted to be detachably attached to a body of the bicycle, and includes a motor and a rotation force transmission mechanism adapted to transmit a motor rotation force from the motor to the input gear. The rotation force transmission mechanism has a one-way clutch for transmitting the motor rotation force to the input gear only in a direction for driving the bicycle forward. A rotation force control unit, interposed between the crank shaft and the hollow shaft outside the hanger lug, transmits a rotation force of the crank shaft to the hollow shaft and controls the motor to generate the motor rotation force when a value of the rotation force of the crank shaft becomes larger than a predetermined value.

The present invention is provided with a head pressing mechanism for pressing a thermal head against a platen, a paper feeding mechanism for feeding print paper between the thermal head and the platen in a secondary scanning direction, a ribbon transporting mechanism for transporting an ink ribbon between the thermal head and the platen in the secondary scanning direction, and a press releasing mechanism for causing the thermal head to move away from the platen against a pressing force of the head pressing mechanism. The press releasing mechanism slides a rod of a solenoid, elongated in the secondary scanning direction, at the position opposing to the rear surface of the thermal head in the secondary scanning direction. A lever link transforms this sliding action into the departing action of the thermal head from the platen. The solenoid and the thermal head are longitudinally aligned substantially in parallel to each other, and the area occupied by the thermal head and the solenoid is reduced, thereby resulting in a thermal printer which is compact as a whole.

Particularly, the developing apparatus further includes a second high-voltage generator for generating a blade voltage of -300 V which is supplied to the conductive blade and electrostatically charging the toner to compensate for a shortage of the electrostatic charge obtained in the toner by friction on the developing roller.

The present invention is directed to a printer and comprises a printing mechanism, a paper guiding path connecting with the printing mechanism, a driving source for a paper conveying system, an output gear connected to an output shaft of the driving source, and a permanent tractor having an input gear. The selective transmission of power from the driving source to either the output gear or the input gear provided in the permanent tractor is performed by a power selecting mechanism operated by an operating member. Further, the printer comprises a second drive force selecting mechanism for independently displacing a cam member in the printer and a clutch section for severing the connection between the output gear and the auxiliary tractor in order to feed only the cut paper. Consequently, the cut paper and the continuous paper can be used individually or in a parallel manner, and an interrupting operation for preventing the continuous paper from being conveyed and feeding only the cut paper can be performed even in a state where the continuous paper is set in the permanent tractor and the auxiliary tractor.

A breaking strength of the power transmitting member against a load from the ink ribbon is set smaller than that of the ribbon driving shaft. Accordingly, in the event that ribbon jam occurs, the power transmitting member breaks to thereby prevent fracture of the ribbon driving shaft in the printer.

The present invention comprises a photosensitive member supported for rotation within a unit case and a charger for uniformly charging the photosensitive member. The charger includes a conductive member in the form of a sheet held in contact with the photosensitive member and a supporting member having a non-flat cross section for supporting the conductive member, in which the charger applies a voltage formed of a direct-current voltage with an alternating-current voltage added thereto to the conductive member to thereby uniformly charge the photosensitive member. The charger is kept in place by having the supporting member fixed to vertical planes of the unit case at positions off vertical planes crossing the photosensitive member. Thus, rigidity of both the supporting member itself and that of the portions where the supporting member and the unit case are fixed together are made higher and, in addition, the portions where the supporting member and the unit case are fixed together are positioned off the portion on which a varying attractive force between the photosensitive member and the conductive member acts. Accordingly, the unit case hardly vibrates and noise is hardly produced.
