An apparatus and method for transmitting and receiving data in a wireless communication is provided. The method includes determining a number of zero-padding bits, determining a number (Npad) of bit groups in which all bits are padded with zeros, padding the all bits within 0th to (Npad−1)th bit groups indicated by a shortening pattern with zeros, mapping information bits to bit positions which are not padded in Bose Chaudhuri Hocquenghem (BCH) information bits, BCH encoding the BCH information bits to generate Low Density Parity Check (LDPC) information bits, and LDPC encoding the LDPC information bits to generate a zero-padded codeword, wherein the shortening pattern is defined as an order of bit groups defined as 6, 5, 4, 9, 3, 2, 1, 8, 0, 7, 10 and 11.

The present invention concerns a method for determining if a handover of a first half-duplex terminal has to be executed from a first to a second base station. The first base station: transfers signal in the cell of the first base station, receiving a message transferred by the first half-duplex terminal in response to the signal transferred by the first base station, the message comprising information relative to quality measurements on the signals transferred by the first and second base stations, receiving a message indicating if the idle period of the cell of the second base station is compatible with the round trip delay of the first half-duplex terminal in the cell of the second base station, determining if a handover of the first half-duplex terminal has to be executed according to the compatibility.

The present invention concerns a method for determining in a wireless cellular telecommunication network in which a half duplex terminal is handled by a first base station, if a second base station is able to handle the half-duplex terminal, characterized in that the method comprises the steps, executed by the half duplex terminal, of:receiving signals from the first base station and from the second base station,determining quality measurements for the signals,determining the time period between the reception of the signal transferred by the first base station and the reception of the signal transferred by the second base station,determining if the second base station is able to handle the half-duplex terminal according to at least the quality measurements and the time period.

The present invention concerns a method for determining, in a wireless cellular telecommunication network, if a handover of a half-duplex terminal has to be executed from a first base station to a second base station, the half-duplex terminal not transferring and not receiving signals during a period of time, called an idle period. The first base station: transfers signal in the cell of the first base station, receives a message transferred by the half-duplex terminal comprising information relative to quality measurements on the signal transferred by the first and the second base stations, obtains information enabling the determination of the round trip delay between the half-duplex terminal and the second base station, determines the round trip delay determines if a handover has to be executed according to the determined round trip delay and the information relative to quality measurements.

The present invention concerns a method for estimating, in a communication system, a level of interference plus noise affecting received signals representative of a set of received pilot symbols, characterized in that the method comprises the steps of: dividing the set of received pilot symbols by a corresponding set of pilot symbols, filtering the divided set of received pilot symbols by a filter the coefficients of which are determined from an eigenvector associated with one of the lowest eigenvalues of a channel fading correlation matrix representative of the correlation between the channel coefficients affecting the set of pilot symbols, averaging up the square absolute values of the symbols obtained at the output of the filter in order to estimate the level of interference plus noise affecting the received signals.

A method and apparatus are provided for transmitting and receiving data through a frame in a wireless communication system, the method including: generating a frame including a preamble section and a data section, the preamble section includes fixed data items and configuration data items, and the data section includes at least one Physical Layer Pipe (PLP); and transmitting the generated frame. The configuration data items are related to the at least one PLP, and the preamble section of the frame is generated according to repetition lengths of the configuration data items.

A method and apparatus for transmitting a plurality of data streams in a wireless broadcast system are provided. The method includes mapping the plurality of data streams onto a super-frame that includes a plurality of frames; inserting signalling information in a first signalling information field for assisting in the reception of a first number of said plurality of data streams for a given frame, the first number being less than or equal to a limit applicable to each of the plurality of frames; dependent on a number of data streams for the given frame being greater than the limit, inserting signalling information in a second signalling information field; inserting said first and second signalling information fields in a preamble section of said given frame; and transmitting the plurality of frames.

A method of de-mapping non-binary Galois field symbols from physical layer code-words in a data communication system, in which at least one physical layer code-word includes portions mapped from more than one non-binary Galois field symbol is provided. The method includes calculating at least a provisional likelihood estimate for values of a first non-binary Galois field symbol having at least portions within a first physical layer code-word, the calculating including selecting a first number of values of a second non-binary Galois field symbol having at least portions within the first physical layer code-word, the first number forming a subset of the possible values of the second non-binary Galois field symbol.

Methods and apparatus are provided for transmitting and receiving data streams. The data streams are received. The data streams are mapped to a physical slot. At least one frame that includes the physical slot is formed. The at least one frame is transmitted through at least one radio frequency. The at least one frame is received through at least one radio frequency. A location of the physical slot included in each frame is obtained. The data streams allocated to the physical slot in the location are received. The physical slot includes bit information indicating a number of antennas transmitting the at least one frame.

A method and apparatus for transmitting data are provided. In the method, data streams are mapped onto frames, a word is generated including information for receiving the data streams for a given frame, and parity bits are derived from the word for the given frame. The data is arranged in the frames. Each of the frames includes a preamble and a data section. The preamble and the data section are time-multiplexed. The data section includes at least a part of the data streams, and the preamble includes signaling information. The word is inserted in a preamble section of the given frame, and one of the parity bits is inserted in a preamble section of a prior frame preceding the given frame. A part of the word for the given frame is inserted within a data section of an earlier frame preceding the prior frame. The frames are then transmitted.
