    Abstract: A bottomhole assembly (BHA) has a first section, a second section, and a drilling motor disposed along the second BHA section. The first BHA section is connected to the second BHA section with a flex sub. A steering assembly positioned along the BHA includes a first steering unit and an axially spaced apart second unit. Each steering unit has at least one pad. During operation, the first steering unit generates a force in a first direction and the second steering unit generates a force in a second direction different from the first direction. The first and the second steering units thereby cooperate to axially misalign the first BHA section and the second BHA section at the flex sub.

    Abstract: A well tool includes a first component, a second component, an orientation assembly, and a coupling device. The first component has a first device and the second component has a passage for receiving the first component and a second device. The orientation assembly causes a predetermined relative orientation between the first and the second component. The coupling device operatively couples the first device with the second device upon the orientation assembly orienting the first component with the second component in the predetermined relative orientation. The coupling device also communicates at least one of power and information between the first and the second device.

    Abstract: Methods and apparatus for determining at least one parameter of interest of an earth formation. Methods include using at least one transmitter to initiate at a single location in the formation a first electromagnetic signal at a first frequency and a second electromagnetic signal at a second frequency different than the first frequency for propagation through the formation; receiving the first electromagnetic signal propagating through the formation and the second electromagnetic signal propagating through the formation at a single receiver non-collocated with the at least one transmitter; estimating a relative phase shift of the second electromagnetic signal relative to the first electromagnetic signal; estimating a relative attenuation of the second electromagnetic signal relative to the first electromagnetic signal; using the relative attenuation and the relative phase shift to estimate a parameter of interest of the formation. The receiver may be unsynchronized with respect to the transmitter.

    Abstract: A coring bit for use on a coring tool for extracting a sample of subterranean formation from a wellbore includes a bit body having a cavity, wherein a throat portion of the cavity extends into the bit body from a face of the bit body. The coring bit includes a sleeve disposed within the cavity of the bit body, the sleeve configured to separate a face discharge channel and a throat discharge channel. The face discharge channel is located radially outward of the sleeve and the throat discharge channel is located radially inward of the sleeve. A method of repairing a such a coring bit includes removing the sleeve from the cavity of a bit body.

    Abstract: Polycrystalline compact tables for cutting elements include regions of grains of super hard material. One region of grains (“first grains”) and another region of grains (“second grains”) have different properties, such as different average grain sizes, different super hard material volume densities, or both. The region of first grains and the region of second grains adjoin one another at grain interfaces that may include a curved portion in a vertical cross-section of the table. In some embodiments, discrete regions of the first grains may be vertically disposed between discrete regions of the second grains. As such, the tables have ordered grain regions of different properties that may inhibit delamination and crack propagation through the table when used in conjunction with a cutting element. Methods of forming the tables include forming the regions and subjecting the grains to a high-pressure, high-temperature process to sinter the grains.
