Abstract:
Systems and methods for enabling people to more efficiently capture, process, and communicate ideas are presented herein. A display component can present multimedia content communicated via a wireless communications device as a sequential list of dialog balloons justified towards a left or right side of a display. Each dialog balloon can correspond to a message of a conversation between a user of the wireless communications device and at least one other person. A multimedia component can enable the user to include text and at least one of a picture, a video, a map, an emoticon, or audio within a dialog balloon corresponding to a message communicated by the user. A message communicated by the user can be justified towards the right side of the display, and a message communicated by the at least one other person can be justified towards the left side of the display.
Abstract:
A dual compression foam pad arrangement for use with surgical postioner devices is formed from a single pair of cloverleaf-shaped foam pieces. The foam piece in contact with the patient is more porous than the foam piece in contact with the positioner support plate for greater patient comfort. A solid plastic connector clip connects the pad arrangement with the surgical postioner support in press-fit relation.
Abstract:
An integer square root calculation technique determines the precise root of an input value to determine the distance between data points such as pixels in a digital image. The technique avoids division and floating point multiplication steps. An initial root estimate may be used as a seed value beginning an iterative convergence towards the final solution. A scaled error may be determined by bit shifting an error difference between a square of the root estimate and the input value. Depending on whether the scaled error satisfies a predetermined condition, the current square root estimate may be adjusted by a bit-shifted fraction of the scaled error and the scaled error is then recalculated. In certain instances, a final adjustment to the root estimate may be implemented to yield the precise square root value. Ultimately, the final root estimate may be assigned to an output value representing the desired distance.
Abstract:
A turbine airfoil may be a rotating blade having a single platform, or a stationary nozzle having a pair of platforms. The airfoil body has pressure and suction sidewalls extending between leading and trailing edges. A compound fillet is disposed between the airfoil body and at least one of the platforms. The compound fillet includes a concave first fillet having a first radius, and a concave second fillet having a second, greater radius. The second fillet extends from the leading edge downstream along the suction sidewall and terminates at a point upstream of the trailing edge. The second fillet may also extend downstream from the leading edge along the pressure sidewall.
Abstract:
A method and system for providing efficient menu services for an information processing system that uses a telephone or other form of audio user interface. In one embodiment, the menu services provide effective support for novice users by providing a full listing of available keywords and rotating house advertisements which inform novice users of potential features and information. For experienced users, cues are rendered so that at any time the user can say a desired keyword to invoke the corresponding application. The menu is flat to facilitate its usage. Full keyword listings are rendered after the user is given a brief cue to say a keyword. Service messages rotate words and word prosody. When listening to receive information from the user, after the user has been cued, soft background music or other audible signals are rendered to inform the user that a response may now be spoken to the service. Other embodiments determine default cities, on which to report information, based on characteristics of the caller or based on cities that were previously selected by the caller. Other embodiments provide speech concatenation processes that have co-articulation and real-time subject-matter-based word selection which generate human sounding speech. Other embodiments reduce the occurrences of falsely triggered barge-ins during content delivery by only allowing interruption for certain special words. Other embodiments offer special services and modes for calls having voice recognition trouble. The special services are entered after predetermined criterion have been met by the call. Other embodiments provide special mechanisms for automatically recovering the address of a caller.
Abstract:
A proximity detector has a sequential flow state machine to identify states associated with a magnetic field signal provided by a magnetic field sensing element. The proximity detector can include a vibration processor to identify a vibration in response to the states.
Abstract:
A method of performing an HVAC system set up. The method includes coupling a supervisory controller to a plurality of equipment controllers, the equipment controllers communicating with the supervisory controller over a bus. The supervisory controller polls addresses associated with the bus to detect the presence of equipment controllers on the bus. An HVAC device is associated with each controller in response to an HVAC device designated through a user interface and assigning an address to the HVAC device. The supervisory controller retrieves control data from a database and loading the control data into the equipment controllers. The supervisory controller loads operating parameters into the equipment controllers.
Abstract:
A first expression of a flow-control valve assembly includes a valve body and a resilient flow control positioned in the valve body. The valve body has a valve seat including a radially-inner valve seat portion, a radially-outer valve seat portion and a bypass-flow-channel exit located between the two seat portions. The flow control has a top surface, a bottom surface, and a through passage. The bottom surface is spaced apart from the radially-inner valve seat portion under a lower fluid pressure against the top surface exposing the bypass-flow-channel exit. The bottom surface seats against the radially-inner valve seat portion under a higher fluid pressure blocking the bypass-flow-channel exit. A second expression of a flow-control valve assembly includes a valve body having a bypass-flow-channel exit and includes a resilient flow control which has a substantially-constant-diameter outer cylindrical surface and which has a bottom surface devoid of any protrusion.
Abstract:
A compound of formula (I) or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof in which R1 and R2 are independently H or methyl (for example N,N-dimethyl-1-[1-(4-chlorophenyl)cyclobutyl]-3-methylbutyl amine hydrochloride optionally in the form of its monohydrate) is used for reducing Insulin resistance in humans in whom Impaired Glucose Tolerance and Non-Insulin Dependent Diabetes Mellitus have not presented.
Abstract:
The present invention provides, with reference to FIG. 2, an amphibian operable in land and marine modes, the amphibian comprising a hull, at least one discontinuity (wheel bay) provided in the hull, and at least one retractable wheel or track assembly at least partially located in the at least one discontinuity (wheel bay). The hull is a planning hull, and the at least one discontinuity (wheel bay) is provided in the front half of the hull of the amphibian. The amphibian further comprises at least one conduit which opens, or is provided with an entry which opens, into or at the at least one discontinuity (wheel bay) and is configured for channeling, in use, fluid away from the at least one discontinuity (wheel bay).
