A three-phase electrical transformer utilizes a conductor independent of the transformer windings for sensing zero sequence current upon the occurrence of a ground fault. A current transformer coupled with the independent conductor provides polarization to protective relay devices. One embodiment utilizes the transformer internal tank shield in combination with the current transformer for providing zero sequence current.

A method of forming a slide fastener having terminal fastener elements reduced in size relative to the remaining fastener elements includes supporting a slide fastener chain to expose the terminal fastener elements, reducing the size of the terminal fastener elements, and fusing a mass of fusible material onto each slide fastener tape to form stop members.

A trolley for transporting the rider supported by a harness on a cable or rope, the trolley having a mounting plate configured with a connection point to receive the rider's harness, a pulley rotatably mounted to the mounting plate to support the plate on the cable or rope, and a friction shoe mounted on the plate forward of the pulley to contact the upper portion of the cable or rope, wherein the connection point is located beneath the cable or rope between the centers of the pulley and the friction shoe. The apparatus may also provide a manually operated brake handle to allow the rider to selectively apply braking force to reduce the speed of the trolley on the cable as desired.

A data storage medium includes a substrate, a reflective metal layer, and a haze-prevention layer between the substrate and the reflective metal layer. The substrate includes an amorphous thermoplastic resin having a heat distortion temperature of at least about 140° C., a density less than 1.7 grams per milliliter, and an organic volatiles content less than 1,000 parts per million measured according to ASTM D4526. The haze-prevention layer includes a material having a volume resistivity of at least 1×10−4 ohm-centimeters and a tensile modulus of at least about 3×105 pounds per square inch. The data storage medium resists hazing of the reflective layer at elevated temperatures.

Jewelry apparatus consists of a body portion having an ornamental outer surface and an ornament portion having an ornamental outer surface. The body portion includes an engagement formation preferably consisting of a cylindrical recess and a bore which extends axially inwardly from the center of the cylindrical recess. The ornament portion includes a complimentary engagement formation preferably consisting of a cylindrical neck which is slidably received in the recess of the body portion, and a post which is slidably received in the bore. When the engagement surfaces of the body and ornament portions are received in engagement, the ornamental surfaces thereof cooperatively merge so that the body portion and the ornament portion appear as an integral unit. The post frictionally secures the ornament portion to the body portion when received into the bore. Because the post and bore are located on the engagement surfaces, they are substantially concealed when the body and ornament portions are received in engagement. The jewelry apparatus further includes mounting apparatus, such as a post and clutch, for mounting the assembled jewelry apparatus on a wearer.

A method is provided for treating an ethanol mixture containing a substantial amount of water comprising admixing said aqueous ethanol mixture with a hydrocarbon fraction containing a substantial amount of an aliphatic olefin having from 3 to 5 carbon atoms and contacting said admixture with an acidic ion exchange resin catalyst to convert the water in said admixture to an oxygenated organic compound.
Abstract:
This invention is a novel plastic bag and method of making it with a handle that extends upward through a folded-back top compartment, and the end of a front of the bag has a pocket with a similar folded-over top edge of the back of the bag. The bags of this invention are made from a continuous sheet, preferably a roll of plastic web that has its opposite side edges folded inwardly along opposite edges of the web to make the folded edges at the front and back sides of the bag. The web is then folded along its longitudinal center region with a gusset that forms the bottom of each bag. The bags have surfaces that are welded together to join areas of the front and of the back where necessary to weld plastic areas together, and certain areas do not weld where the plastic sheet is coated on areas that prevent heat applied to the plastic from fusing together.
