Abstract:
A heating system includes a conductive layer disposed on a pane surface of a glass pane, a first busbar extending along a first pane edge portion of the glass plane in electrical contact with the conductive layer, and a second busbar extending along a second pane edge portion of the glass plane in electrical contact with the conductive layer. Applying power to the first busbar causes current to travel from the first busbar along the conductive layer to the second busbar, heating the pane surface.
Abstract:
A method for improving the efficiency and durability of reversible solid oxide cells during electrical energy storage is disclosed. The method utilizes a specific set of operating conditions that produces a storage chemistry where approximately thermal-neutral operation can be achieved at low cell over-potentials. Also disclosed are reversible solid oxide cell energy storage system configurations, including one that utilizes storage in natural gas and water storage/distribution networks, thereby reducing storage cost.
Abstract:
An apparatus for transporting a rider between two points on a cable or rope, having a plurality of supports configured to suspend the cable or rope between two points of unequal elevation and a trolley for transporting the rider supported by a harness on the cable or rope, the trolley having a mounting plate configured with a connection point to receive the rider's harness, a pulley rotatably mounted to the mounting plate to support the plate on the cable or rope, and a friction shoe mounted on the plate forward of the pulley to contact the upper portion of the cable or rope, wherein the connection point is located beneath the cable or rope between the centers of the pulley and the friction shoe.
Abstract:
A wheeled stepladder dolly is disclosed wherein the dolly is engageable with both a step of the ladder and the existing cross braces on the support portion of a conventional stepladder to temporarily hold the stepladder in a fixed relationship with the dolly, thus providing a stepladder dolly assembly to be used for transporting heavy boxes of tools or the like. The engagement means are adjustable and configured to be adaptable for a number of brands and varieties of commercially available stepladders.
Abstract:
This invention is a novel plastic bag and method of making it with a handle that extends upward through a folded-back top compartment, and the end of a front of the bag has a pocket with a similar folded-over top edge of the back of the bag. The bags of this invention are made from a continuous sheet, preferably a roll of plastic web that has its opposite side edges folded inwardly along opposite edges of the web to make the folded edges at the front and back sides of the bag. The web is then folded along its longitudinal center region with a gusset that forms the bottom of each bag. The bags have surfaces that are welded together to join areas of the front and of the back where necessary to weld plastic areas together, and certain areas do not weld where the plastic sheet is coated on areas that prevent heat applied to the plastic from fusing together.
Abstract:
1. In an electrical energy generator, the combination comprising a first elongated annular electrical current conductor having at least one bare surface extending longitudinally and facing radially inwards therein, a second elongated annular electrical current conductor disposed coaxially within said first conductor and having an outer bare surface area extending longitudinally and facing said bare surface of said first conductor, the contiguous coaxial areas of said first and second conductors defining an inductive element, means for applying an electrical current to at least one of said conductors for generating a magnetic field encompassing said inductive element, and explosive charge means disposed concentrically with respect to said conductors including at least the area of said inductive element, said explosive charge means including means disposed to initiate an explosive wave front in said explosive advancing longitudinally along said inductive element, said wave front being effective to progressively deform at least one of said conductors to bring said bare surfaces thereof into electrically conductive contact to progressively reduce the inductance of the inductive element defined by said conductors and transferring explosive energy to said magnetic field effective to generate an electrical potential between undeformed portions of said conductors ahead of said explosive wave front.
Abstract:
Surfacing compositions are provided which comprise a mixture of mineral aggregate, such as particulate slag, the residuum of a bituminous emulsion and optionally, a silane adhesion promoter. In the emulsion, the emulsifier employed is an alkoxylated asphalt.
Abstract:
A globe construction for visually determining the time at a geographical area of the earth including a translucent globe, a rotatable hour dial labelled by hours and having perforations through which a stationary dial having minute indicia is viewable through the rotatable dial. The rotatable dial is activated by a timing motor adapted to rotate the hour dial 360.degree. per 24 hour day. The interior of the globe is provided with a light to permit viewing the hour indicia on the hour dial and the indicia on the stationary minute dial.
Abstract:
Light-control panels including layered optical components are described in this application. An example of a light-control panel includes first and second glazing layers and first and second switchable components extending between the first and second glazing layers. The light-control panel also includes a thermal coating extending between the first switchable component and the first glazing layer and a filter extending between the first and second switchable components.
