Abstract:
A shape memory material inductive heating arrangement comprising an array of coils capable of carrying an alternating electrical current and generating a magnetic field, a shape memory element having a first modulus and a second modulus, the second modulus greater than the first, characterised in that the array of coils and shape memory element are in effective range so that when an alternating current is passed through the coils the shape memory element is subject to the magnetic field and heated thereby, the induced heat sufficient to change the modulus of the shape memory material from the first to the second modulus.
Abstract:
A gas turbine engine exhaust nozzle arrangement for the flow of exhaust gases therethrough between an upstream end and a downstream end thereof comprising a nozzle and a plurality of tabs which extend in a generally axial direction from a downstream portion of the nozzle wherein the nozzle further comprises an actuation mechanism capable of moving the tabs between a first deployed position, where the tabs interact with a gas stream to reduce exhaust noise thereof, and a second non-deployed position, where the tabs are substantially aerodynamically unobtrusive.

Abstract:
A hemostatic clip for application to body tissue is disclosed which includes opposed leg portions connected by a bail portion with each leg portion having a tissue contacting surface defined thereon. A pair of projections and a pair of recessed areas are defined on each tissue contacting surface and are disposed in an alternating arrangement such that the movement inhibiting structures on one leg portion are in juxtaposed alignment with those on the opposed leg portion.
Abstract:
An apparatus and system are disclosed for indicating relative positions of elements in a surgical apparatus. The indicating elements can include electrical circuitry for activating visual, audible or tactile indicators, thereby alerting the user that an event has occurred with respect to the instrument.
Abstract:
Apparatus for determining the location of graduated marks in measuring comprising source means for emitting electromagnetic radiation towards electromagnetic radiation sensors, and a measuring mark moveable between the source means and the sensors from one measuring position to another in a direction of measurement transverse to the direction of radiation, the mark being adapted to cause a restriction in the cross-sectional measurement of radiation between the source means and the sensors, the sensors being adapted to detect the location of the radiation restriction by sensing radiation intensity proportional to the area of their receiving faces upon which such radiation falls in use.
Abstract:
The invention provides novel 1,2-diphenylethene derivatives and pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof, the process for production of these compounds and their pharmaceutical composition and the use of these compounds as modulators of T-cells, neutrophils, macrophages and their associated cytokines as agents for treating immune, inflammatory and auto-immune diseases.
