    摘要: A method of driving a gray scale and a drive circuit therefor are provided in which the simplification and reduction of the operating speed of a circuit for generating display voltages in a matrix display device are promoted, and low cost and multi-color display of high minuteness are simultaneously realized. The display circuit for generating the display voltages is composed of an image signal processing circuit for dividing an input digital image signal into plural bit groups, a first display voltage generating circuit for generating the display voltages corresponding to the first bit group obtained by the division, a second display voltage generating circuit for generating the display voltages corresponding to the second bit group obtained by the division, and a line-at-a-time timing circuit. The first and second display voltage generating circuits are operated in parallel to combine the outputs thereof with one another, thereby to generate a gray scale displaying voltage.

    摘要: An apparatus and a method for driving a guest-host type phase transition liquid crystal in matrix is disclosed in which X and Y electrodes in matrix comprising a guest-host liquid crystal made by adding a pleochroic dye to the cholesteric-nematic phase transition liquid crystal or chiralnematic phase transition liquid crystal are impressed with an X electrode selecting voltage, an X electrode non-selecting voltage, a Y electrode selecting voltage and a Y electrode non-selecting voltage selectively thereby to apply a holding voltage for holding the display condition of the liquid crystal cells of the liquid crystal display elements and a write-in voltage for new write-in. The region where the display condition is to be erased is designated in the liquid crystal display panel. The X and Y electrodes in that region are impressed with the X electrode non-selecting voltage, the other Y electrodes are impressed with the Y electrode selecting voltage, the other X electrodes are impressed with an erasure holding voltage having a continuously repetitive pulse waveform including one cycle of the Y electrode non-selecting voltage and three cycles of Y electrode selecting voltage, so that the liquid crystal cells in the designated region are supplied with the erasure voltage and the other liquid crystal cells are supplied with the holding voltage, thus erasing the designated region alone.

    摘要: The present invention realizes a liquid crystal display device and an image display device which prevent the generation of flickering when power is supplied again after the supplying of power is stopped. The liquid crystal display device includes first and second substrates which are arranged to face each other in an opposed manner, a liquid crystal layer which is inserted between the first and second substrates, active elements, scanning signal lines for operating the active elements and pixel electrodes to which video signals are supplied upon operation of the active elements which are all mounted on one substrate, an orientation film which is inserted between the pixel electrodes and the liquid crystal layer, and reference electrodes which are mounted on either one or the other substrate, and the liquid crystal display device performing a display by generating the potential difference between the pixel electrodes and the reference electrode. In such a liquid crystal display device, the charge of the pixel electrodes is rapidly released when the supplying of power to the liquid crystal display device from the outside is stopped.

Display dots are formed at points where the column electrodes cross the row electrodes. A column electrode driver drives each of the column electrodes in accordance with display data to be displayed on the display dots. A waveform generator generates at least four different sets of waveforms. A row electrode driver drives the row electrodes by applying to the row electrodes respective voltages having respective ones of the waveforms in a selected one of the at least four different sets of waveforms, the selected one changing after each frame period. The display data is displayed on the display panel in accordance with the driving of the row electrodes by the row electrode driver and the driving of the column electrodes by the column electrode driver.

    摘要: A liquid-crystal display system includes a data driver, a scan driver, a liquid-crystal panel, a line memory (204 in FIG. 2) in which input display data (101) for representing any of display-ON, display-OFF and halftone every pixel are stored for, at least, one line, and a halftone pattern generator (200) by which liquid-crystal display data (106) to be applied to the data driver are generated using the contents of the line memory and the input display data. The halftone pattern generator generates ON data in response to the input display data representing the display-ON of the pixel; it generates OFF data in response to the input display data representing the display-OFF of the pixel; and it generates the ON data and the OFF data alternately in successive frames as halftone data in response to the input display data representing the halftone display of the pixel, and it also compares the input display data of a pertinent line and those of a preceding line every line so as to invert a phase of changing-over the ON data and the OFF data in accordance with a result of the comparison. Since the number of ON pixels (or pixels for either of first and second data) for the halftone display is substantially equalized every frame, flickering can be reduced irrespective of display patterns.
