    Abstract: A rail conditioning system associated with a locomotive is provided. The locomotive operates on a rail. The rail conditioning system includes a fluid supply tank. The rail conditioning system also includes a first nozzle coupled to the locomotive. The first nozzle is adapted to direct a first beam of fluid received from the fluid supply tank towards a first portion of the rail. The rail conditioning system further includes a second nozzle coupled to the locomotive. The second nozzle is adapted to direct a second beam of fluid received from the fluid supply tank towards a second portion of the rail. The rail conditioning system includes a valve element provided in fluid communication with the first and second nozzles. The rail conditioning system further includes a control module in communication with the valve element.

    Abstract: A housing member for enclosing an aftertreatment module of an engine is provided. The housing member includes a base member, a plurality of side members extending from the base member, and a top member coupled to the plurality of side members. The base member, the plurality of side members and the top member are together configured to define an inlet chamber and an outlet chamber. The housing member includes an inlet port defined on at least one of the plurality of side members and configured to communicate with the inlet chamber. The inlet port is coupled to an exhaust conduit of the engine to receive exhaust gas. The housing member includes a plurality of outlet ports defined on the top member and at least one of the plurality of side members. The plurality of outlet ports communicates with the outlet chamber to discharge the exhaust gas from the aftertreatment module.

The system includes at least one rollable and compressible device configured to be affixed or otherwise provided on a side of a locomotive or portion of a train. Each rollable and compressible device includes bi-directional rolling element and is configured to allow movement of the roller between a non-rolling state and a rolling state and between an uncompressed state and a predetermined maximum compressed state.

    Abstract: An energy recovery system for an engine system is disclosed. The engine system includes an engine, an exhaust conduit configured to receive exhaust gases discharged from the engine, and a first turbocharger coupled to the exhaust conduit to receive exhaust gases from the engine and provides compressed air to the engine. The energy recovery system includes a bypass conduit, a second turbocharger, and an accumulator. The bypass conduit is coupled to the exhaust conduit upstream of the first turbocharger, and facilitates a portion of exhaust gases from the exhaust conduit to bypass the first turbocharger. The second turbocharger is coupled to the bypass conduit, and is driven by the portion of exhaust gases bypassing the first turbocharger to compress air received from an ambient to a first pressure. The accumulator is in fluid communication with the second turbocharger, and stores air received from the second turbocharger at the first pressure.

    Abstract: A fuel supply system for mounting to an undercarriage of a locomotive includes a first enclosure and a second enclosure that are disposed below the undercarriage of the locomotive. The first enclosure is configured to extend partway along a length of the undercarriage and is designated to store a first type of fuel therein. The second enclosure is located adjacent to the first enclosure and configured to extend parallelly with respect to the undercarriage. The second enclosure is designated for enclosing components that are configured for supplying a second type of fuel to an engine of the locomotive.

    Abstract: A system for tracking train assets is disclosed. The tracking system may include an image capture device configured to collect an image data set of a train asset and an area surrounding the train asset. Furthermore, the image data set may be associated with a time stamp and in one non-limiting example, the time stamp provides a collection time of the image data set. In some embodiments, a controller may be configured to receive the image data set and to perform an analysis of the image data set and the analysis provides a track location of the train asset and an identification of the train asset.

    Abstract: A railroad control system is disclosed for a network of trains. The system may include a centralized control system configured to transmit trip parameters for each train in the network. The system may include an energy manager in communication with the centralized control system and located onboard each train.     Abstract: A mechanism to communicate in a secure manner between locomotives of a train consist is disclosed. Controllers on locomotives generate data packets and encode them according to one of a plurality of modulation schemes and transmit the encoded data packets according to one of a plurality of frequencies. The frequencies and/or modulation schemes used to transmit data are changed periodically by the transmitting controller in a sequence. The receiving controller is aware of the current frequency and/or modulation scheme being used and can, therefore, decode the transmitted data. Since the transmission frequency and/or modulation scheme is not known by a malicious actor, the data communications between the controllers is secure. The sequence of frequencies and/or modulation schemes may be communicated between the two controllers during a handshaking procedure to set up communications. Clocks of the communicating controllers may be synchronized to enable the frequency and/or modulation hopping scheme.
