Abstract:
Disclosed herein is a receiver including: a reception section operable to receive AV content transmitted by a broadcasting wave; a trigger acquisition section operable to acquire trigger information adapted to operate an application program to be executed in response to the received AV content; a table acquisition section operable to acquire a correlation table correlating the trigger information to commands adapted to control the operation of the application program; an application acquisition section operable to acquire, based on the acquired correlation table, the application program transmitted by the broadcasting wave when the command correlated to the trigger information indicates the acquisition of the application program; and a control section operable to control the operation of the acquired application program in accordance with the command correlated to the trigger information.
Abstract:
A system and method for effectively supporting content distribution in an electronic network includes a content server and a peer-to-peer network of client devices. The content server stores content items received from a content provider. A recommendation engine of the content server creates a global recommendation list to identify an optimal global candidate from among the stored content items for performing an automatic and transparent content download procedure. The recommendation engine creates the global recommendation list by analyzing selectable content-ranking criteria from a plurality of device users of the client devices. The content server then downloads the optimal global candidate from the stored content items to one or more identified target devices during the content download procedure.
Abstract:
A system for providing power to a wireless card includes power interface that provides power to a compact flash card. A boost regulator boosts the power from the power interface. A battery provides power that is summed with the power from the power interface. Moreover, a buck regulator limits the voltage of the summed power. A compact flash card can be powered by the power interface while a wireless card can be powered by the summed power.
Abstract:
To reduce peak bandwidth requirements for a channel carrying several multiplexed MPEG-type programs, the generation of large intraframes is coordinated among the programs to avoid two program encoders simultaneously encoding an intraframe.
Abstract:
A user device enters a power save mode in which only the physical layer of its wireless communication system and minimal logic circuitry remains on. In a first implementation the minimal logic circuitry is in the MAC or the digital portion of the radio on a communication card, and the logic monitors the 802.11 traffic indication map (TIM) to determine whether traffic for the user device exists. If it does, the user is alerted or the device is powered on. In an optimum mode the minimal logic circuitry listens for a special sequence unique to the device, and if it detects the sequence leaves the power save mode.
Abstract:
High definition (HD) video may be sent from, e.g., a laptop computer on a table in a room to a video projector mounted on the ceiling using a 60 GHz high capacity (2.5 Gbps) wireless link. At this frequency and data rate, the signal is so short range and directional that low power may be used and the video may be transmitted in an uncompressed form such that so much data is transmitted each second that bootlegging the content is essentially untenable. No wiring between the HD video source and the HD video display is necessary.
Abstract:
A system and method for augmenting digital material with MPEG-7 content descriptions to enhance searching and selection of the digital material. Pursuant to the collection of content information about the digital material, either through receipt or content characterization, a set of MPEG-7 descriptor schemes and descriptors are created for constituent elements of the content. The MPEG-7 descriptions are structured as META tags, including predetermined opening and closing delimiters, which are inserted within the header field of the digital material. The MPEG-7 content description data may contain multiple content levels describing levels of associated embedded content. By way of example, use of MPEG-7 content descriptions within a web site (or internet transaction session) can improve the speed and accuracy of content selection.
Abstract:
A set top box (STB), an interactive television and a personal computer (PC) are coupled together as part of a network, preferably a home network. A processing request is received by the STB, wherein the processing request is preferably a request to manipulate a corresponding data. The corresponding data is preferably content stored within the home network. In response to the processing request, the STB first determines if a processing capability of the STB is sufficient to perform the processing request. If the STB includes sufficient processing capability, then the STB processes the request. If not, then the STB determines if the PC has sufficient processing capability to process the request. If the PC includes sufficient processing capability, then the STB issues a command to the PC to perform the processing request. Once the PC receives the command from the STB, the PC performs the processing request on the corresponding data and sends the processed data from the PC to the STB.
Abstract:
A master content directory service (CDS) provides a consolidated CDS which includes content listings representing all of the content within the network. A component of the master CDS functioning as a control point application periodically queries each CDS within the network in order to obtain the content listings for processing and inclusion within the master CDS. The component of the master CDS functioning as a control point application preferably also subscribes to each CDS within the network to receive notification of changes in content. Control point applications within the network access the consolidated master CDS to search content listings from all devices within the network. Preferably, the content itself is stored on the original device. When a control point application, accessing the master CDS, selects content for rendering, a communication is sent to the source device for the selected content. The selected content is then transmitted from the source device to the requesting device.
Abstract:
A spacing device that, when integrated with a deflection yoke, enables proper alignment of the deflection yoke vis-null-vis the display screen without tilting. Several individual spacers are placed between the windings in cavities that accommodate the spacers, and the spacers are composed of an elastic plastic or rubber material that compresses under pressure and expands when the pressure is removed. The spacers allow the deflection yoke to be clamped in place and prevent tilting of the deflection yoke during the clamping process. Once clamped in place, the deflection yoke can be adjusted in the z direction to permit adjustment of the deflection yoke on the cathode ray tube vis-null-vis the glass to provide optimum picture quality (e.g., geometry, color purity, convergence, and focus).
