Abstract: The present disclosure relates to non-surgical methods for delivery of an agent to the respiratory system of a subject, methods of treatment using delivery of agents to the respiratory system, devices for delivery of agents to the respiratory system, and use of such devices to deliver agents to the respiratory system. In certain embodiments, the present disclosure provides a provide a non-surgical method of delivering an agent to the respiratory system of a subject. The method comprises in vivo perturbation of the airway surface in one or more parts of the respiratory system in the subject and exposing the perturbed surface of the airway to the agent, thereby delivering the agent to the respiratory system of the subject.

Abstract: A microstructured optical fiber sensor for sensing changes in a physical characteristic up to a predetermined temperature is disclosed. The sensor includes a microstructured optical fiber and a fiber Bragg grating formed in the microstructured optical fiber by generating a periodic modulation in the refractive index along a core region of the suspended core. The fiber Bragg grating is configured to produce a band reflection spectra including a fundamental mode and a plurality of higher order modes whose respective wavelengths vary in accordance with changes in the physical characteristic at the core region of the microstructured optical fiber. The microstructured optical fiber is configured to increase the confinement loss of the plurality of higher order modes of the band reflection spectra relative to the fundamental mode.

Abstract: A new slow-release fertilizer is described that is formed by applying graphene oxide (GO) as a carrier for micronutrients such as copper (Cu) and zinc (Zn), in which the micronutrients are efficiently bonded with the functional groups at the surface and sides of the GO sheets due to their affinity to the unpaired oxygen atoms in the GO. The prepared Cu-graphene oxide (Cu-GO) and Zn-graphene oxide (Zn-GO) fertilizers showed a biphasic dissolution behaviour compared to commercial zinc sulphate (ZnSO4) and copper sulphate (CuSO4) fertilizer granules, displaying both fast- and slow-release micronutrient release.

Abstract: A solar receiver for exposing heat absorbing particles to concentrated solar radiation. The solar receiver includes a chamber having an aperture through which concentrated solar radiation can be received within the chamber. An inlet means provides for introducing an inflow including solar absorbing particles into the chamber. An outlet means provides for discharge of an outflow from the chamber. The inlet means communicates with the chamber for introduction of the inflow into a first section of the chamber in opposed relation the aperture. The outlet means communicates with a second section of the chamber disposed between the first section and the aperture, wherein fluid flow from the inlet means to the outlet means is exposed to concentrated solar radiation received within the chamber. The first section diverges in a direction towards the aperture, and the inlet means is configured to introduce the inflow tangentially into the divergent first section.
