Abstract: A single photon source comprises a photon emitter (10), an excitation waveguide (30) arranged to direct excitation photons having a first polarisation direction into the photon emitter, and a collection waveguide (42) arranged to collect photons having a second polarisation direction from the photon emitter. The first polarisation direction is coupled to a first exciton state of the photon emitter and the second polarisation direction is non-parallel to the first polarisation direction and is coupled to a second exciton state of the photon emitter, and the first and second exciton states have substantially equal energies.

Abstract: A continuous wave ultrasound analysis device for analysing a surface of a component includes an input to receive ultrasound data relating to continuous wave, swept frequency ultrasound propagated through the component; a processing section to derive a standing wave amplitude spectrum from the received ultrasound data, and determine a property of an unconstrained layer on the surface based on the standing wave amplitude spectrum; and an output to output the determined property of the layer. Abstract: The present invention relates to a cell-free, multi-layered medical device having bespoke, multifunctional bioactivity for the purpose of regeneration of skeletal tissues. The medical device may actively promote homing of stem cells into the medical device and promote their differentiation into the required cell type and promote de-novo tissue formation. The invention includes methods of making the medical device, uses of the medical device in promoting regeneration of the articular cartilage of a joint surface and in promoting healing and regeneration of skeletal tissues, for example, meniscal cartilage, tendon and ligament tissues and also healing of bone tissue indications such as fractures.
