Abstract: A fiber optic connector assembly and method for venting gas inside in a fiber optic connector sub-assembly. The fiber optic connector assembly includes a connector sub-assembly including a ferrule and a ferrule holder having a passage extending therethrough. A stiffener tube having a tube body disposed about a portion of at least one optical fiber supports insertion of the optical fiber into the ferrule holder passage. The stiffener tube contains at least one opening in its tube body configured to vent gas trapped inside the stiffener tube during assembly. In this manner, the trapped gas does not form a gas pocket in the bonding agent, which could compromise bonding among the optical fiber, stiffener tube, and connector sub-assembly.

Abstract: A system and method for decomposing more than two materials in an imaging object includes performing a CT imaging acquisition of a portion of an imaging object using at least two energy levels to acquire imaging data associated with each of the at least two energy levels. A total mass attenuation of the imaging data is expressed as a weighted sum of constituent element mass attenuation coefficients and an effective atomic number and density of the constituent elements in the portion of the imaging object is determined by one of a number of methods. Accordingly, concentration of the constituent elements in imaged object is determined by solve the expression using known material attenuation coefficients and the measured CT data.

Abstract: A method and a corresponding system for characterizing the performance of a clock and data recovery circuit in a digital transceiver is presented. The method comprises phase modulating a jitter-free data signal by a testing signal having added data jitter and measuring the time the clock and data recovery system takes to achieve bit lock of a phase modulated signal. Data uncorrelated timing jitter corresponding to a user defined probability distribution is included in the jitter testing signal. Utilization of a variable probability distribution in generating data uncorrelated timing jitter, as provided by the present invention, allows for greater flexibility and accuracy in clock and data recovery circuit testing and characterization.

Abstract: A circuit for pre-emphasis in data serialization. The circuit has a signal delayline to incrementally delay a serialized signal, producing a delayed serialized signal. The circuit has a one bit generator circuit, which determines the interval between receipt of one bit and a second bit. The one bit generator circuit has a strobe delayline to incrementally delay a strobe signal, producing a delayed strobe signal, a logical gate to compare the delayed strobe signal with a second strobe signal, and a logical component to determine how long the delayed strobe signal was delayed before it matched the second strobe signal. The circuit also has a comparison gate to detect transition points in the serialized signal by comparing the delayed serialized signal with the serialized signal. The circuit also has a current source to provide increased current for the serialized signal at the detected transition points.

Abstract: A preconnectorized outdoor cable streamlines the deployment of optical waveguides into the last mile of an optical network. The preconnectorized outdoor cable includes a cable and at least one plug connector. The plug connector is attached to a first end of the cable, thereby connectorizing at least one optical waveguide. The cable has at least one optical waveguide, at least one tensile element, and a cable jacket. Various cable designs such as figure-eight or flat cables may be used with the plug connector. In preferred embodiments, the plug connector includes a crimp assembly having a crimp housing and a crimp band. The crimp housing has two half-shells being held together by the crimp band for securing the at least one tensile element. When fully assembled, the crimp housing fits into a shroud of the preconnectorized cable. The shroud aides in mating the preconnectorized cable with a complimentary receptacle.

Abstract: Disclosed are methods that enable communications to be established regardless of the presence of communications blockers, e.g., firewalls and NATs, in the path between two computing devices. Two devices each establish communications with a rendezvous service. Through the service, the devices signal each other to set up direct, peer-to-peer communications between themselves. If the devices fail to establish direct communications, then they invoke a relay service that provides the illusion of direct communications. In another aspect, an originating device attempts to establish communications with a recipient, using an address and port number associated with the recipient. If that attempts fails, possibly because a firewall is blocking communications, then the originating device retries using a port normally held open by firewalls. If this attempt also fails, then the originating device invokes the services of a proxy to negotiate a port acceptable for use by the recipient and by any intervening firewalls.
